Chapter Twenty Two ~ Her New Place

( Y/N POV )

Yawning I began to sit up stretching my arms above my head, using a hand to grip my elbow to pull my arm back further and pull on the muscles in my back; a pleasant crack rang out as the joints in my back shifted. Glancing around me I found I was alone in the room but the sound of water moving told me Karn was washing, a pleased sigh left my lips knowing I wouldn't have to join him today; I had my bath last night before he had come back from being called away to deal with some dispute between two juvenile males as he had put it. Pushing myself from the bed I moved to chose a covering to wear today, I didn't rush like I used to when I was naked with Karn close by; I was still conscious of being bare around him but since we set our rules in place I had to abandon my reservations and give up being covered as much as possible. One of the rules Karn set was to have me bare when we were inside the den as he didn't see the need for me to hide from him or those trusted within the dens walls, despite how much it had pained me to give in to that particular rule I made sure to have one of my own demands in exchange; which Karn reluctantly agreed to if it meant he got his way. Pulling the ties in place to secure my lower covering I couldn't keep the smile from pulling on the corners of my lips knowing I now had what I wanted, I could now leave the den with an escorting female to go outside whenever I wasn't needed for my lead female duties; and Yumi had promised I could visit Berry whenever I wanted and ever watch her while she hunted or she wanted time to bond with her mate. Pulling a leather strip from a basket by the bed I began to run my brush through my hair as I tried to tame the H/C strands to braid them out of the way, closing my eyes feeling the firm bristles scrape at the skin of my scalp as the small knots came loose; once more thankful I had brought a bag of items with me with little luxuries like my hair brush. Karn seemed to show little attention to everything I had with me after searching the bag for weapons, having even taken a liking to some of the things I brought with me including my brush; which was why I now had to brush his hair before bed most nights. I knew he just enjoyed having his hair brushed and the excuse to have me touching him, but he insisted that it was to help us bond and become closer as mates; not that he ever ran out of ideas to try and make me bond with him. Glancing behind me I saw the flash of scales just before two clawed hands came to circle around my stomach, the sharp claws raising goose bumps along my skin as they teased placing light pressure; not enough to pierce my skin or leave a mark just enough to make sure I knew he was there. 

Forcing myself not to shiver as the cool skin of Karn's chest pushed against my back I closed my eyes waiting for what I knew was coming, and as predicted I felt the scrape of fangs along my collar bone followed by the heated stroke of a tongue soothing the slight sting away; Karn's usual morning greeting since I came back. His way of reminding me he was there and that I was him, it was the way I was woken up most mornings and went to sleep at night... and though I would never admit it I had started to enjoy the attention; it was almost affectionate at times and was one of the only ways I managed to convince myself Karn wasn't a complete monster. "Are you ready Precious? You have qiuet the day ahead of you" Blinking I took in what Karn murmured in my ear, his deep tone sharing nothing for me to guess his mood or what he was thinking; but I knew very well what he was referring to. Today I was to meet with all the females in the territory so they could ask me for blessings or make requests, after Karn introduced me as his mate and lead female officially the females had demanded to have a private audience with me as was their right; one Karn couldn't refuse apparently as no matter what he said none of the females could be dissuaded. Licking my lips I nodded gently and tried to push the hands still cradling my stomach away from my skin, I found little resistance and quickly moved away to collect the cloth I used to wrap the soles of my feet sitting down on the furs of the bed; I had been given them by Yumi's mate when he came to check my health. He had come to check me when Yumi got worried over seeing I was in pain from the bad cramps on my last period, even when I tried to convince her it was normal she insisted on having me seen to but thankfully Olcana had listened to sense; he took in what I told him about how human cycles worked but still looked me over to placate his worrying mate. He said I should cover my feet with the woven cloth to try and protect them until my skin naturally became tougher to deal with the local terrain, and then gave me a clean bill of health along with thanks for caring for his young so he could spend time with his mate; offering a vow to be at my side should I ever need him. He seemed to be happy with protecting my feet for now and gave me enough woven cloth to keep my feet safe for a while, wrapping my feet now I was thankful for the distraction it offered as well; I was nervous about today and being reminded of the fact I was doing it on my own wasn't helping. Not that I wanted to have Karn there with me, the females all seemed almost aggressive when Karn was being overly touchy with me; Kirin explained that females felt protective of me and it due to my small size and it was also a sign of acceptance.
