Chapter Twenty Five - Finding New Strength

( Y/N POV )

The thing that I was able to think when the darkness finally cleared was how heavy she felt, there was clawed hands weaving through my hair gently combing against my scalp; the action as far too gentle and maternal to be Karn. There was also something on my stomach weighing down on me gently, it felt like a child but then my mind told me that wasn't right; the only child I knew that was allowed this close was... what happened? Pushing my eye lids to try and lift almost desperately to open, moaning quietly when they refused putting more force into the action; the fingers in my hair speeding up a little as Yumi's gentle words floating in the air. "Easy now... Olcana's had to give you one of his stronger blends to give you relief from the pain, it was the only way he could find the source with you in such distress" Finally blinking my eyes open in the low light Yumi's warm smile greeted me, her eyes shining with relief and concern from her position above me; confirming the suspicion I was cradled to her chest. Looking down I found I was right about another thing as I found Berry curled into my upper stomach, her hair splayed over my skin as her small arms hugged my form as far as their length allowed; her small deep breath heating the skin it touched. "She managed to escape three females who tried to keep her away, even hissed at Lord Karn before begging him to let her see you; he allowed it when Mai convinced him it would please you to see her on waking" A tired smile pulled at my lips silently thanking Mai's thoughtfulness, seeing the little girl did cheer me up even if my body felt like someone replaced my blood with lead; but as my memory came back I was happy to accept that instead of what I felt before. But that brought a frown to my face as my mind fell blank after falling asleep in Karn's coils. "Yumi... what happened to me?" The hand in my hair stopped as her thumb continued to move in slow circles, looking up I found Yumi watching me seeming unsure as she licked her lips; before nipping her own lip showing her delicate but deadly fangs. I tried to sit up but between Yumi suddenly gently pressing me down, and Berry's weight on me I couldn't do in the state I was in; which only made me worry more. "Yumi?" The quiet question seemed to bring the older female out of her inner indecision. "Y/N you must promise to me you will stay calm and listen to me until I am finished" Frowning I slowly nodded now more worried than before, Yumi wasn't normally this serious and with her mate being the healer she knew how to deal with these kind of situations; so if she was telling me to be calm then it must be something more serious.

"When we came you were in great pain and Olcana was forced to give you one of his blends, its purpose was both to force sleep and take away pain; but usually is only used as a last attempt to offer relief" I opened my mouth but Yumi offered me a firm looking telling me she was not done, so instead I began gently stroking over Berry's head feeling her stir; I didn't want her to wake yet or at least not until her mother was done. "Once you were deep under its effect Olcana was able to check you thoroughly, using what we had seen and the little Lord Karn offered until to find the source of the pain; your womb" Confusion settled in as my mind whirled with so many conflicting thoughts, I knew I was late but my cycle had been off since I came back; maybe it was my cramps getting worse because I hadn't bled in so long. The thought was almost desperate as I watched Yumi hesitate for a moment before continuing on. "We will not know until my Mate tests your body again tomorrow if he reached you in time, but you will feel no more pain until then so you can be at ease; and Lord Karn has agreed to remain away and allow us females to care for you until then. The others are hunting and collecting fruit but they will return soon and we will get you bathed" If felt my chest contract as confusion mingled with panic, the possibilities running through my mind kept conflicting but one always stopped anything else from taking my full focus; but the dread in me at the thought tried to reject it. "Y/N? Y/N!" Berry's voice snapped me from my dread filled mind as she sat up reaching to encircle my neck, nuzzling into me almost franticly her happiness at seeing me awake infectious enough to distract me; but with my arms still feeling so heavy I only managed to bring one to gently sit over the small child's back. It seemed to be enough for her though as Berry leaned back, her eyes almost glowing happily as she took her own weight fully now; her small coil coming to settle at my side offering a welcomed source of heat. "Mother and Father said you are well now because Father made you better, but I need to be gentle because your body is still weak from what made you unwell. Mother says I have to leave when the other females come back, but I am allowed to come back after Father checks on you tomorrow; unless you need to rest" Her small mouth pulled into a pout at the last part, and it pulled at my heart so I pushed myself to gently stroke her cheek; a smile on my face at her adorable nature. "Don't worry sweetheart I will be back to normal soon, and then you can come and see me like before" Her small smile returned full force as she snuggled into me again, but Yumi quickly coxed her to move away gently helping me to sit up despite the heaviness I still felt; the new position helped a little and with a sigh I closed my eyes again as Yumi and Berry began to bicker. The sound despite the noise was pleasant putting a normal air to the room, and making me almost forget how terrible I felt; that was until another sound hit the air. "YYYY/NNNNNN?" The sound of Coral's voice came echoing in, if she was more worried or excited to see me I didn't know; but right now I knew there was no way to get away from her no matter how overzealous she was.
