( NORMAL POV )
Groaning in pain again as the water lapped at my aching sides I let Mai gently clean me, Karn had followed through on his threat with a vengeance last night taking my body every way he pleased despite my discomfort or pain. He had left me a while ago not reattaching my chain this time and telling me Mai and Coral would come to bathe me after the sun rose, I had been far too tired and sore to argue letting sleep claim me giving relief from the waking world. Waking up to the smell of fresh fruit had been a little odd but a welcomed change from the stomach cramps as my body hadn't adjusted to not eating daily just yet, having downed a fruit and small handful of nuts so I didn't overfill my stomach I let Mai and Coral herd me into the bathing room. I felt better now that Mai had cleaned almost all of me but in the pit of my stomach I could feel dread growing, my stomach cramps were becoming less common telling me my period was almost finished; I had two days left at best and I still had no ideas for an escape plan. Numbly aware of Mai's guiding hands I walked out the water letting Coral cover me in a large woven towel as we moved back towards the bed I hated so much, which made me again wish there was some form of chair or carpet to sit on instead. Finally slumping down on the furs I watched Coral and Mai begin to talk absently looking through the coverings I had and which I should wear, apparently Coral wanted me in a thicker one as a storm was coming and I could get cold; Mai argued it didn't matter as I wouldn't be leaving the den until it passed. I ignored them rubbing the last of the water from my skin and moving to put on the freshly filled covering on the bed and moved to sit against the back where the pillows met the wall, despite my hatred for the bed itself I loved how the overly filled pillows felt letting me almost melt into the softness they offered. Reaching over the edge I picked up the leather bound journal and began to look through it, reading passage after passage I lost track of time as I fell into the story it told.
The entries told every one of what Clarissa had called most arduous events from the kidnapping itself to the when she was first raped, I made sure to read every word trying to learn as much as I could but found very little of use. All the weaknesses she described in the anatomy of their kind were either useless as I had no venom as they did or needed a weapon thick and sturdy enough to pierce their hide... something I wasn't sure I could do even at peak strength. However there was something she mentioned that sparked my mind into activity, Clarissa mentioned that their senses like a lot of animals was impaired when in a storm or under influence like smoke from a fire; hadn't Coral had mentioned a storm was coming? Reading on I found more details such as how they seemed to work as a community, it seemed Clarissa was dragged along with the male that took her and she saw a lot of their customs and ways. When I read the words ' tomorrow I will make my escape' my eyes widened and I sat forward crossing my legs as I placed the book inside the centre, my finger trailing under the passage as I read her plan. Clarissa had waited for a storm and planned to leave during the peak when the thunder and rain would be strongest, it seemed most of them seemed to sleep during that time to relive the stress on their hearing. Clarissa said they had paths they marked by scent and there was very few ways to avoid them but she had asked females and they told her each trail needed to be remarked after a storm, and that gave her a least a day's head start. She had packed food and the smallest weapon she could find and planned to avoid the river as crocodiles seemed to be seen as possible pets and were fed scraps, that meant they would be hunting the banks here too so I needed to avoid the river. Reading on Clarissa said she followed the roughest trail which she was small enough to use, but their larger size wouldn't allow towards the mountain she had seen; it was the only land mark she remembered and would bring her close to a settlement.
Letting myself fall back I thought over her plan, a lot of it I could use and if there was a storm tomorrow then that would be my best chance; maybe my only chance. Thinking desperately I tried to remember back to our campsite, the only thing close by had been a large lake; then I remembered the tower. In Cora's brothers camp they had put up a huge tower to send out and receive data for their work and it could be seen from miles away, even this far away it should be a least a little visible. If I could climb one of the trees to the top into the canopy level then I would be able to see it and get my bearings, and then I could look for the densest path and make my way back. Frowning I looked back at the book, something didn't make sense; Clarissa's plan was good and even in the time period she was from she should have had enough skill to make it to a settlement with the storm on her side. Licking my lips not sure if I wanted to find out what happened I willed myself to look at the next page, turning the old off coloured paper and beginning to read what might be the defining factors in my escape and freedom. Next to the entry a page had a drawing on it again of what seemed like a room, the paper shaded so the drawing itself seemed like it was put into complete and permanent darkness; the features in the room hardly visible. Looking closer I could see a few droplet shaped stains on the page, the paper wrinkled like it had been wet then dried; tear marks? Swallowing I looked pulled my legs up resting the book on my knees and closer to my eyes and easier to make out the dark shapes, very much wishing I hadn't. The room was much like the chamber I had been taken to and punished in the first time Karn moved me, with various tools whips and blades lining the walls. But unlike the chamber I had visited there was no platform to lie or sit on, instead there was only a long thick chain seemingly hanging from the ceiling; a set of shackles at their end and even from a drawing I could tell that a human would dangle if place in them and not stand on the floor as they should. I couldn't help the dread that pooled in my stomach at the thought of the use of that room, and it took me much longer than I thought to make myself turn and read the entry that sat beside the nightmarish room's image.
