( KARN POV )

Looking at the aging tree house before me I focused on the light shining in the main room, I had no doubt the one I sought was home. For some reason he refused to leave his home unlit after dusk, it was one of the many reasons most of our kind avoided him. He did not seek others out unless he needed something or in cases when it was mating season and I had no reason to approach him until now. As long as he did not cause issues amongst those in my territory or taking more than his share I had no reason to do so, until now. He had been out casted from his last home for reasons unknown to me, but it was common knowledge that he had a human mother, something which was clear with his upper half being more human with less serpent like features than a pure blood may have. And with his low rank and blood line that seemed to have made him weaker than some other males making him an undesirable mate to most females. Climbing up the opposite tree it was easy work to enter the tree house, not bothering with knocking on the door as he would have heard my approach. Going inside I found him watching a bird preening on a branch close to the window by him, he seemed content to ignore my presence but spoke before I could address him on it. "I thought you would be visiting soon, I heard you were seeking female companions for your human mate. You want to know about my mother right?" I stayed silent at his laid back tone, not thinking he would have heard about my mate so soon. When his gaze reached mine I watched his eyes closely for any emotion and found none, they stayed vacant and blank. Looking away from me he gestured to a fur lined seat across from him, taking it I stayed calm waiting for him to speak not knowing where to begin with my questions. Sure enough he soon began again, simply giving some random knowledge. "My mother was taken some time ago so she would not be the same as your mate, she was around her twentieth year and my father said she fought him like a wild animal to begin with. He said she did not believe in mating and needed much time and care before she accepted her place amongst our kind, the only thing she ever was happy about was having young of her own"

His tone was more sombre than before and I quickly picked up on his last words. "Your mother conceived quickly?" I watched him consider my words before shaking his head. "No, father said a human's heat is a delicate thing. It turns with the moon and can be changed by their mood, he said mother bled for several days each month before she would be fertile again. But if they are overly stressed or upset then their bleeding can be longer or come sooner than it should" I took this in nodding as it seemed to confirm what my Y/N told me as truth so I looked to him again, examining him closely for the first time since he asked for permission to stay in my domain. Although his features were more human than a pure blood of our kind he seemed proportioned the same and I knew from what I had heard of him his senses were just as sharp, which made me wonder. "Why were you out casted?" I saw something flicker in his eyes for a moment, it was gone before I could tell what it was but the anger in his voice explained it to me easily. "My father sent me away after me and my siblings shamed him, he wished to take a second mate as mother could not carry any more young. The female tried to kill our youngest sibling because she was weaker and sickly, mother died protecting her before I and my sibling could get to her" I frowned in thought, it was not unheard of for a male to take a second mate if his first could not carry his young. Nor was it said a female could not cull the weak from the young to protect the blood line, but it was frowned on for another female to do so with the young of others. "I do not understand, you were sent away for protecting your sibling?" He shook his head slowly looking out the window once more. "No, I was sent away for killing my fathers second mate. It hurt our mother deeply when father shunned her for another, all in the territory loved my mother and father and his female were all but avoided because of it. But when she killed mother the elders ruled in the female's favour, so me and my brothers took it in our own hands. Father was shamed for our actions as he was called an unfit male and we were exiled for defying the elders"
