( NORMAL POV )

Groaning as my mind came back to the world feeling my body ache from the night before, I didn't have to look to know the arm around me was Karn's as his upper body was pressed against me and his coils was wrapped around one of my legs before coming to rest around the front of my body blocking any escape attempt. Karn had take off the chain from my collar last night and I hadn't reminded him to put it back on, but he was in no way giving me any room to get away from him so the freedom from the chain gave me little more than the illusion of freedom. I let my eyes slowly take in the same dimly lit room around me that I had been confined in since being taken, the few other rooms I had been allowed in made little difference as I felt myself sag into the bed. I could feel myself beginning to get angsty at the confinement, I needed to see the sun again or just be out in the fresh air; the lack of both was getting to me. When Karn suddenly jolted up behind me I flinched turning towards him, he was looking toward the doorway his eyes narrowed for a moment before turning to me. His eyes bore into mine before he moved away from me quickly towards the doorway stilling once he reached it one hand on it while looking back to me, I sat up on one arm letting my other arms shield my chest despite knowing it did little to protect what I had left of my modesty. "You will remain as you are until I return" The authority in his tone made a shiver go over me but I made no reply holding Karn's gaze until he finally left the room, Sighing I sagged finally feeling less tense with him gone. Feeling no real need to leave the bed I decided I would let him think I was following his commands, after all it might go in my favour later on; letting my eyes look around the red leather bound book at the bed side caught my attention. I had almost forgotten about the book Creek had given me yesterday, Karn had taken it from me last night to look at it but seemed more than frustrated when he didn't find whatever he had been hoping to find.

Leaning over I picked it up before moving to lean back against the pillows as I looked down at the old book in my hands, I let my fingers run over the old leather taking in the fading gold detailing it had once had which I was sure was beautiful as the time. Why would he-Creek have given me this? If it belonged to his mother surely it was something he would want to keep, not give to a stranger like me. And the inscription inside... it unsettled me. I had looked at the dates briefly before Karn had come back and snatched it from me, the earliest one was well over a hundred years ago. It didn't shock me after I thought about it, it made sense really that Karn's kind lived longer than humans with them mythological creatures; most of them did that I knew of. I didn't want to think how old any of them were, Kirin was the oldest one I had encountered so far and she didn't look old by human standards but she was considered an elder amongst them; but I had to admit I was a little curious how they aged. Letting that thought go for a minute I opened the book flicking through the pages taking in the amount of entries and a few coal sketches, stopping on one a third into the book as my eyes widened and my mouth opened at the beautiful portrait. There on one full page was a baby, not a human child but one of Karn's kind smiling happily seemingly reaching up one hand for someone. The detailing in the portrait was amazing and I let my fingers trail over the old drawing in awe of it, the shading let me see its beautiful swirling eyes and small scales decorating its skin all the way until its tail began. Underneath the picture was written Rain two months old, I let my eyes wander the picture again in wonder; Was this one of Clarissa's children? Looking to the passage on the page next to it I began to read, the beautiful script took my full attention as I began to read needing to know more.
