AUTHOR POV
Leaning back against the large rock, a feather filled cushion stopping the hard stone from hurting her back from leaning against it too long. Y/N's eyes were focused on the three still playing in the shallows not far from her. Bela had used his coils to create a small yet safe play pen for Nyx and Apollo to play in. The surf continued to wash over his coils giving them water to swim and play in, while never being too deep or out of the large males reach. After two months in their new home both boys had grown stronger and now looked almost like they could be a year old. Kimberly had explained to Y/N in detail how her sons would grow, yet seeing them grow so quickly was still surprising. As they played now it was easy to see how they had bonded to Bela, despite their colouring it would be easy to assume he was their sire but they still sought their mother above anyone else.
This was one of the few times they had strayed far from her, but even when they followed Bela to the water's edge they had continued to look back to check she was still there. The love and pure adoration her sons gave her was like nothing Y/N had known before. Of course she still hurt from all the pain and loss that had tore into her life, the memories still haunting her most nights as she tried to escape the living world. Yet waking up to Nyx and Apollo always reminded her she had survived it all, with two shining stars of hope to brighten her world. The sound of Bela lightly scolding Apollo as he tried to take hold of some kind of creature, no doubt one that would turn on the small boy left a small smile on Y/N's lips.
Three stars. Although she had come to stay with Bela knowing he would keep her safe, trusting him to not force anything further than friendship her view of him had begun to change. The way he taught and nurtured the boys, treating them like his own had solidified their friendship that had already been budding. As weeks went on little things he had done had made her more aware of him. How he had supported her as she finished healing, taking time when he returned from rare occasions he was called away to ensure she was alright. Coming to her side in the night if her nightmares were at their worst, seeing her through by holding her close whispering words of comfort. A light blush formed when Bela's eyes caught Y/N's as he looked away from the two laughing boys for a moment.
Like always there was a welcoming warmth inside those vibrant eyes, one she knew he was keeping on a tight leash as he promised to never push her. Shifting a little feeling the sand shift under the woven towel beneath her, Y/N adjusted her top covering feeling her chest begin to ache. She ignored it for now. Her body was more than happy to remind her when her sons were due to have their next feed if the boys didn't, but this time at least Y/N wasn't happy for the reminder. Seeing Nyx holding himself up against Bela's coils trying moving his own in the light current, while Apollo tried to evade Bela's restraining arm reaching towards the water for some unseen treasure she just couldn't interrupt them. This time was something she couldn't offer them. Slowly Y/N smile faltered. There would always be things she couldn't teach them that they needed to learn, parts of hers sons world she just couldn't share.
Her friends would help her fill the voids in her own knowledge to teach them, and of course help her keep up with them as they grew. It hurt knowing they wouldn't know much about their human heritage, though even as much as it hurt to admit that was as much for their safety as it was the distance. The old legends described the race her sons belonged to as monsters, there was no telling how her parents would treat them. A slow ache that had always been in her chest burned back to life thinking of the family she had left behind. Apollo and Nyx had some of their fathers family to learn from, Bela had been clear he welcomed any to visit for short stays. He had objected to her leaving his territory unguarded however, so as of yet there had been no plans to stay elsewhere. Karn had still not been found, not a single sign of his death or survival. So for now neither Y/N or anyone else had wanted to take any risks until something was found.
