Chapter 40
Paige's P.O.V.
The light died and my eyes adjusted to their surroundings. We were just outside of camp, at the bottom of the hill.
My heart sank as I saw the sun rising up over the water. I had minutes. maybe seconds to live.
Connor came over and knelt beside me.
"Come on, we need to go. We dont have much time!" He said, trying to lift me up.
"Connor..." I rasped "there's no time"
"No no no! We can still make it!" He cried. "We can still make it"
"Its too late" I spoke. "If these are my last moments, I would rather spend them here with you than walking up that hill."
He nodded, understanding and rested his forehead against mine.
There were tears spilling from his eyes and dropping against my already damp cheeks.
"I love you" he whispered.
"Quite right too" I croaked, attempting to laugh, but only managing to cause myself more pain.
"And I suppose, if its my last chance to say it. Connor Stoll..."
And the world drifted away.
