Chapter 39

Connor's P.O.V.

I woke up and immediately noticed that I was alone.

Paige was gone.

At first I thought it was a monster attack, but there was no sign of a struggle. she had left.

she left and I had to find her.

I looked up at the sky. It seemed to be about noon. I had to somehow find her and get back to camp before sunrise. It was completely impossible, but I would at least try.

I had been searching all day and half the night, and still no sign of her.

I was starting to loose hope.

I could see a dark mound on the ground up ahead and pulled out my sword, ready for a monster attack.

As I moved closer, I noticed that it was slightly humanoid in shape.

Paige.

I ran forward and knelt down at her side.
There was black blood around her wound and more coming from her mouth.
she was barely conscious as I propped her up against me.

Her skin was so pale against the black of the night.

This was the wrong time to notice how beautiful she looked.

she immediately sat up in a coughing fit, black blood staining her hands.

"ll... look up" she rasped, tugging on my sleeve.

above me was the massive tower of an electricity pilon. As I looked closely, I could see celestial bronze woven in with the structure.

It let off such a loud buzzing sound that I was surprised that I didn't notice it before.

"th...The... tele-teleports" Paige whispered.

she was looking worse now, the sun was coming up on the horizon.

We didn't have much time.

The teleports seemed to buzz, as if they sensed all the power swarming overhead.
I walked over to the base of the tower and raised the devices up above my head. They started to glow and hum before sparking everywhere, making me drop them.

I quickly dropped to the ground and examined them.

They seemed a little singed on the outside but the thing that really caught my eye was the glowing yellow light in the centre.

This was it. We were going home.
