Chapter 42

Paiges P.O.V.

My mind was wondering so fast that it was starting to give me a headache.

Various scenes and scenarios flashed through my head. All with different sounds, colours and emotions. I could hear people calling out my name and shadows dancing across my eyelids.

Then finally I woke up. I opened my eyes slowly, getting used to the bright light. I was in the infirmary at camp half blood. The bright afternoon sun flooded the room, drowning everything in its path with a harsh white glow.

There were thin, white, cotton sheets draped from the open windows, gently blowing in the breeze. There were three other beds in the room, none were occupied except for the last.

It was Connor

He was lying unconscious there under the duvet. I lept up and out of bed, pulling the various wires out of my arms, causing an alarm to start blaring. I had to go and see him. Make sure that he was okay.

The loud clanging sound of the alarms rattled through my head, making my brain feel like it was shrieking and tearing itself apart.

Suddenly, will solace and another apollo camper burst into the room. They reached me just as I passed out.

~♥~

I woke up again feeling entirely refreshed. I looked up and saw that Connor was no longer in the bed opposite me.

Panic washed through me which slowly turned to deep dread as my imagination conjured up all sorts of grim scenarios that could have happened, then I felt a cold hand on my own.

I turned to see Katie Gardner sat in the chair next to my bed.
"Hi." She smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine" I rushed. "Where's Connor?" I asked, trying to sound calm.
"He's fine, he is back doing normal camp activities. He was just dehydrated and exhausted. Nothing a bit of rest and ambrosia can't fix."

I let out a breath that I didn't realise I was holding.

"You on the other hand..." Katie paused. "You almost died paige!"
I glanced up at her sad eyes.

No words seemed right. What do you say to your best friend after an almost fatal incident?

The dead have it easy I suppose. They aren't around to clean up their own mess. They move on to the underworld. It's the people who are left behind who are caused the most pain.

I don't pity the dead. Pity the living.

It was then, after a short moment of silence that Katie spoke up.
"Mind you, you should have seen it. Connor came up over the hill, carrying you in his arms, sunrise behind him. Was pretty dramatic if you ask me!" She smiled, nudging me in the side.
"Ouch!" I yelped as her elbow touched my side.
"Sh!t sorry!" Katie groaned.

I lifted my shirt to see a jagged white line running from the waistband of my jeans to my hip bone.
"Good thing it's not summer" I joked. "This would look bloody awful in a bikini"
Katie smiled.
"Derek's been asking about you"

Oh yeah. Forgot about Derek.

"He doesn't know... does he?" I asked worriedly.
"No." Katie hesitated. "He will find out sooner or later"
"You underestimate my ninja abilities young padawan" I joked.

There was something poking at the side of my memories. Something I just couldn't put my finger on. Something about Connor.

"Can I go now? I need to see Derek."

Tada!!!!! Next chappie has some sexual tension so look forward to that! And don't forget to vote and comment, telling me what you think?
