Chapter 44

Wow this is a lot of chapters but they are all very short :/ I'm so so sorry I haven't updated for so long but I've had writers block. Anyway enjoy this chapter!

Chapter 44

Paige's P.O.V.

One thing I knew was certain, I was staying away from connor.
With everything going on, the last thing I needed was more drama.
Unfortunately, I had also been avoiding Derek.

Ever since the quest, I hadn't wanted to see him in fear that he might guess what was wrong.

This also meant that he thought I was avoiding him.

Oops.

So far I couldn't think of a good enough excuse.

It was a Tuesday. Everytime something interesting happened it was always a Tuesday. Most unsuspecting day of the week.

I was in the armoury, looking for a spare celestial bronze plated crossbow (I had down graded from an actual bow after I almost shot my instructor) when Derek walked in.

"hi" I said awkwardly.

Then Derek did something I wasn't expecting. He turned and locked the door, slipping the key into his pocket.

"what the hell?!" I exclaimed

"you're avoiding me" he stated.

"No, I just haven't seen you around." I lied.

"You could have come to see me" he pushed.

"I've been busy!" I protested.

Derek huffed, looking at the ground.
"you are supposed to be my girlfriend and you can't even look me in the eye... What's going on Paige?"

I caught his gaze for a moment. He looked hurt and I couldn't blame him.

"look" I said shakily, letting out a long breath. "ever since the quest, going up against all those monsters, being stuck in that bloody forest for days with no food or water.... I just... Don't really feel like talking anymore."

Not really a lie

"and I'm sorry for ignoring you, I just needed some time to get my thoughts together."

True... Ish

I walked over to Derek and pulled him close to me using his belt loops.

"I'm sorry" I whispered and gave him a light kiss "but you never learn" I smiled as I held up the key in my hand.

I was sat with Katie outside the demeter cabin.

"how are you and Travis?" I asked

"good I guess, I don't really know" Katie sighed

"what do you mean?" I asked, sitting up and looking at her.

"well we went on like two dates but now... Now I don't know what's really happening."

"have you talked to him about it?"

"no. I don't know. I probably will but I'm going to wait for things to play out. I don't want to over analyse things." she shrugged. "anyway, how are things with Derek? Still avoiding him?" Katie asked.

"he locked me in the armoury this morning and wouldn't let me out until I told him why I was avoiding him."

"ouch. Nothing gets past him." Katie smirked.

"I will tell him eventually. I just want to wait for things to die down first." I huffed.

"are you sure your injury is the only reason you are avoiding him?" Katie asked.

"what do you mean?"

"it doesn't have anything to do with a certain son of hermes??" Katie asked pointedly.

"what are you implying?" I gasped.

"never mind, but I'm here when you need to talk about him." Katie said knowingly.

"there is nothing going on between me and Connor." I grumbled.

"you keep telling yourself that" Katie chuckled and went inside.

Seems nothing gets passed her either.
