Hermione made herself comfortable and then made the extra effort of throwing compliments towards my toad, Trevor. She observed his slimy body before turning a small smile to me.
" He's awfully.. lovely. " She said, with a slight grimace. I could tell she was just trying to be polite, but accepted the compliment nonetheless. Hermione begun digging through her suitcase, pulling out an exceptionally large book. She set it on the table and began pointing out certain charms to me and spells.
Her knowledge for a muggle-born was slightly frightening. She pointed out a charm that would allow the caster to move an object, with the flick of their wand. She instructed me on how to do it, allowing me to try it myself afterwards.
I did the swish of my wand clearly.
" Wingardium Leviosa. " I yelled after flicking the wand, pointing it towards my toad, Trevor. In a moment, he was gone. I stared in awe and horror and what I had just done, Hermione shook her head.
" Sorry Neville, that's my fault. It's quite the tricky spell to complete honestly. " She informed me, but I was still at shock at what I had just done.
" Did I kill him? " I asked, a loud trembling making an appearance in my voice. A wry smile joined her face as she shook her head, I sighed in relief, unclenching my fists.
" He's probably just transported somewhere else on the train. " She told me, offering her hand over as she stood. My face turned a light shade of red as I took it and she began leading me along the corridor, popping her head into carriages to ask about the missing Trevor, many people shrugged us off.
We reached one of the last carriages on our journey and as I popped my head inside, I realised it was the blonde boy who had hit me's sister. She seemed to be in a conversation with one of the red heads, Hermione surprisingly sat down and began talking to the black haired boy.
He was Harry Potter? Gosh. Maybe I could be his friend too?
I continued searching the carriage, until my eye's fell on the striking blonde girl's. She had the same exact eyes as the boy from before, could they possibly be twins?
I was brought back to reality, by Hermione introducing me to everyone. I attempted to do a bow, but as I realised that simply wasn't going to work, I did a small curtsey instead. I sheepishly looked at the ground as Hermione lead me back to our own room, double checking with many of the carts to see if they had seen Trevor since we'd left.
Everyone said no.
I frowned at my silly behaviour, Trevor could possibly be in danger and I wouldn't know. Hermione rested her hand on my shoulder and opened her mouth to say something but as she did, our train pulled to a stop.
I stared outside through the windows but it was quite dark, beside the train carriage lighting. Hermione made a lot of noise getting her suitcase down, which reminded me I needed to get mine down as well.
I helped her get hers down and let her go on ahead before reaching for my own, I walked into the large crowd that was now inhabiting the corridor of the train. I heard a few grunts and curse words thrown my way as I edged my way in, I began walking slowly down the corridor until I made it outside.
I placed my suitcase down, taking in a deep breath of fresh air and shutting my eyes.
" Neville come on! " Hermione's voice brought me back to reality and I followed her to the large crowd of people gathering around a large bearded man, who formally introduced himself as Hagrid.
We were soon set off on small boats and set to paddle across the lake to reach Hogwarts, I paid little attention to the people in my own boat. Staring down at the water we were surrounded by, the dark night sky reflecting in it.
As we reached Hogwarts, we were quickly ushered up the stairs and outside the great hall. As one of the professors was speaking to us, I spotted a familiar green body on the floor.
" Trevor! " I cried, picking him up. I looked around as silence descended and realised I had disrupted her speech, I ducked back into the crowd, slipping Trevor into my pocket.
We were brought into the Great Hall and I made a great note about the stunning ceiling and the levitating candles, perhaps I'd be able to make candles levitate someday. The large crowd of First Years was brought forward, to surround Dumbeldore.
He was able to provide a welcoming speech and to explain the house system of Hogwarts, soon enough we were all being called up and sorted into our new houses.
I fiddled with the hem of my shirt. Gran had always said, I would make our family name proud by getting Gryffindor. But I wasn't the bravest of people you'd ever meet.
Hermione was sorted into Gryffindor, which seemed fitting, she was quite a courageous person as well as ambitious.
One of the blonde twins was sorted into Slytherin, while the other Gryffindor. Which was quite odd if you ask me, family members usually were sorted into the same house.
Before long my name was called, I took a big deep breath, a habit my grandma had taught me for when I was nervous.
Not that I'd trust her to know that, she claimed to have had many professions however I knew a psychologist was not one of those.
" Neville. " My name was repeated, I made my way to the stage then, smiling sheepishly. The hat was placed on my head and it instantly began murmuring comments about my brain.
" Hm... Brave parents I see, however I see you have doubts about whether that was passed down to you, Nonetheless.. Gryffindor! " It yelled out and the table that I would now spend the rest of my high-school day's sitting on erupted into fits of cheers, I quickly resumed my seat and watched as the other kid's got sorted.
" Good job Neville! I knew you'd get gryffindor. " Hermione told me, I smiled at her but offered no further comment.
I believe deep down, maybe I knew I would as well.
