How It Started

Chapter 17 - Selina Black

I stared mindlessly at the wall paying no attention as I sat next to Pansy in the Slytherin common room hearing her drag on about wanting Draco to ask her to the Yule ball. It had been four years since I had joined Hogwarts, and four years for Pansy to form her enormous crush on the one and only Draco Malfoy. I thought for a brief moment that I might ask Draco to the ball just to spite her.

A lot of events had occurred in my time here at hogwarts, from my defence against the dark arts teacher supposedly carrying Voldemort's reincarnation although no one really believed potter, a secret underground chamber being unlocked by a first year Ginny, my dad escaping from Azkaban and being labeled a crazed killer on the loose at the school as of yet his innocence was still pending, and now the goblet of fire being brought to Hogwarts and Harry Potters name being pulled out, why was it always Potter?

I rubbed my temples as I turned to face Pansy, her wining high pitched voice was starting to annoy me, I of course would have rather been anywhere in the school but I just happened to be waiting for my not so annoying friends. Eventually I saw Mattheo, Draco, and Theo standing in the door way, I sighed throughly relived by their presence, I made sure to give a thankful glance at each of them.
"If you're that worried just ask him yourself Pansy" I said to Pansy as I stood up holding my reading material, we were supposed to be heading to the library for a study period.
"Shhhhh he might hear" she hushed trying to make sure I didn't say anything, I rolled my eyes in response as I walked over to the door.
"You took your time didnt you?" I sarcastically asked Draco as we all walked out of the common room and down the hallway
"You can blame Mattheo, he was asking Astoria to the Ball" Theo said nudging mattheo in the stomach, I laughed just thinking of the outcome
"I don't know what's worse her saying yes or no" I responded trying to hold in a laugh
"As a matter of fact she said yes happily, at least I have a date, which is more than you can say" Mattheo said smirking as he opened the library door, I gave him a glare before spotting a table.
"Well I'm just waiting for the right person" I responded sitting down, the others did the same.
"Well you better hurry the balls only in a couple of weeks" Draco said smiling.

"Agh look who it is" Pansy said, I followed her line of sight until I saw Neville, Vesper, Harry, Ron and Hermione walking into the library. Over the years, our two groups had sort of formed alliances against each other, to be completely honest I didn't understand why most of the time I just nodded, made a few snide comments and went on my way. I saw no issue in hanging out with other houses although a lot of people in my friendship group frowned upon it. The amount of tension that occurred as they sat down at the table next to us, was very noticeable. I looked over to see a few of them looking at us, I shot Ron a glare which caused him to go read and immediately look down.

"I need to grab the second volume of my potions book I'll be back" I said getting up, in return I received a few nods from my table. I slowly walked past Vesper and her friends table which was awkward it's true.

I had come to know my way around the library by now so I followed the sections until I turned into the aisle I needed. I guess I had turned the corner too fast because I ended up bumping heads with someone, I stumbled a little but caught myself on the bookshelf closest to me.
"Shit sorry my fault" I said looking up to see Fred Weasley
"You have a habit of running into me Lina" he said laughing, I couldn't help agree
"Definitely not my intentions I came for a potions book" I said holding my head laughing with him. In my first and second year at hogwarts I was close friends with the Weasley twins, but last year I started to hang out with more Slytherin people and I guess we grew apart, i hadn't spoken to Fred in a while come to think of it.
"What a coincidence I also came for a potions book" Fred said scanning the bookshelf until he found the one he wanted he pick it up and held it in his hands looking somewhat proud of himself, I did the same and found the second volume I was needing. We made small talk as I did so.
"Hey Fred" I said suddenly
"Hey Selina" he said in response looking puzzled
"Do you have a date for the ball?" I asked, i didn't know why but part of me was hoping he would say no.
"Can you believe it but I do, I'm taking Angelina Johnson you? he said making a joke before asking me the same question. Of course he would have a date, who was I kidding.
"Uhh yeah I'm going with Theo" I said with a half smile, Fred nodded at this response
"The Nott kid, you can do better" I laughed at his response and shrugged
"Well you can do better than Johnson.... anyway I'll see you around Freddie" I said before turning and walking away.

I noticed as I walked past Vespers table Neville was looking at me, what did he want? As I sat down at my table I turned to face Theo
"You're taking me to the ball" I said opening the book, I glanced up at his face
"Y-y-yeah ok how come?" He asked, he looked almost scared
"Did you just stutter? Well you don't have a date, neither do I so let's go together" I responded
"That makes sense, alright I'll take you to the ball" he said before glancing back onto his book.

I looked at Mattheo who looked puzzled, he raised his eyebrows at me to which I just shrugged, before I went back to reading I looked at Draco he looked annoyed.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked him
"Nothing" he mumbled before going back to his book.

Well that was one thing sorted, I was going to the ball with Theo, now all I needed was a dress.
