Chapter 10 - Locked & Loaded

As soon as I locked the door, I found myself pressed up against it with Dex's lips pressed against mine. His hands were on either side of my head on the door, I wrapped my arms around his waist and just let it happen.

"I love you, Kaylee." he said when he pulled away.

"Te amo, so much." I sighed, cradling his face in my hands.

"I . . . doll, I don't know how to make up for everything. I'll work every day to make it up to you love, every single day to make it up to you."

"Dex, I don't want to think about that. I don't know if I can forget what happened to everyone. We all almost died at some point and I was so afraid that I was going to lose you. I was afraid that you were going to die and . . ."

"It's okay, I understand, in my haste I almost killed you and the child. That's not easy to forget." he sighed, pulling away.

"Wait, let me finish."

"Kaylee, if you . . ."

"Let me finish! I don't know if I can but I know that I don't care. I know that I love you and I don't care what anyone thinks about it. I know that I don't want to lose any more time with you. I was mad for so long but I was mad for the wrong reasons and at the wrong things and I don't want to be mad anymore. I want you, I want us." I told him.

"Are you sure?"

"I am." I insisted.

"What about your family?" he sighed, rubbing my arms.

"I deserve to be happy just as much as anyone else. They're just gonna have to deal with it and you already saw."

"Love, I just want to make you happy."

"Love me, the way you promised to and I promise to love you. That'll make me happy and hopefully I can make you happy too." I smiled, trying not to cry.

"I will, I promise and you do make me happy." he sighed, kissing me again but softer this time.

"Dex, promise me no more lies. No more hidden agendas."

"I promise that I will frustrate you, I'll love you, I'll anger you and annoy you, but I promise to never lie to you again. There are things that you need to know but not now, not bad things. We'll talk when all of this is over. I promise."

"Thank you." I whisper, wrapping my arms around him again.

He wrapped his arms around me and yawned, making me laugh.

"Let's get you to bed."

"I don't want to go to sleep just yet." he argued.

"You need to rest, to bed." I smiled, pushing him back.

"You too." he said, pulling his shirt off.

"I will."

"How long has it been since you've gotten a good night's sleep?"

"Long enough."

He handed me his shirt after I pulled my pants and shirt off, so I pulled that on while he pulled his pants off. I turned away from him to grab something off the little table and Dex threw me over his shoulder and dropped me on the bed. As soon as he laid down, he pulled me close to his chest and I could literally feel all of his tension fading away.

He fell asleep so quickly, his hold on me tight and I let his heartbeat lull me to sleep. For the first time in months, I had a full night's sleep where I didn't wake up and I owed it to his sheer presence, to being in his arms. I woke up tightly cocooned in his arms.
