Chapter 24 - Unification & Property

I followed Letty over to a little seated area overlooking the greater New York area. It was awkward at best for the first minute or so, the two of us sat there watching Dom and Dex talk.

"The two of them are going to have to get used to each other." she said.

"Yeah, they really are."

"I won't lie and say that I wasn't mad at you."

"Your anger was the least of my worries. When Dom called me, I wasn't sure if I believed him when he said that Dex was alive. He told me about the baby and I knew that just for a while, I had to put my anger and my pain aside. I was in pain, yeah, you were too but Dom was alive and in my mind Deckard was dead, I wasn't going to get him back. The baby wasn't to blame for that though, so I did what I had to do."

"Would you have accepted Cipher's offer?"

"I guess we'll never know now. Like I said, I did what I had to do. Dom told me not to tell anyone and he had his reasons for that but they're both alive, the three of them are, and so is Elena. We get a second chance, Letty. I've gotta take advantage of that." I said, looking back over to Dex and Dom.

"You're right. Things are definitely gonna change now." she said.

"He's adorable but his inner clock is all kinds of fucked up and wonky, so good luck with that." I laughed.

"Yeah, and we'll have to see how to split the time with Elena."

"That too, it'll be fine just you wait and see."

"Can we talk?" Dom asked when he walked over to us with Dex.

"That seems to be the question of the day. Listen, there's honestly nothing to talk about that we all don't already know." I told him.

"Kaylee, I'm sorry." he sighed.

"You had a plan, you did what you had to do to execute that plan."

"Yeah but ..."

"Listen, Deckard is alive, Elena and the baby are alive, and that's all that matters. We all made it out of this one together and that's not always the case. Let's just promise not to do anything similar in the future." I said.

"Deal." the three of them chorused.

"Congratulations." Dom said, grabbing my hand and looking at the ring.

"I was waiting for someone to mention it! You did good, boy." Hobbs said as he made his way over to us.

Sam ran over to us and wrapped her arms around me, tightly.

"Wait, what? Kaylee, babe, how could you do this to me?" Roman dramatically complained when he caught wind of the news.

"Sorry Roman, it just happened." I smiled.

"You put a ring on it, smart man." Tej said to Dex.

"Very smart in my mind." Dex replied, kissing my temple.

"Let's eat people!" Roman shouted.

"To the table it is." I chuckled, holding hands with Sam and Dex.

Everyone got comfortable in their seats around the table with Dom at the head of the table, like it's supposed to be. He has the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face while he held Matteo. Now, we just have to wait and see what name he picks out.

"You've heard me say that you never turn your back on family, and I wanna thank you all for never turning your back on me." Dom said.

"Well, Kaylee was about to shoot your ass." Roman said, making everyone laugh.

"Undecided." I smiled, winking at Dom.

"Read the room, man." Little Nobody complained.

"Ow ... that was my shin, man." Roman complained.

"Okay, you wanna meet these crazy people? Alright, everyone ... meet Brian."

It's fitting and now that big Brian is taking the time to be a family man we miss him more than ever.

"Okay, it's my turn to say grace since Mia's not here. Thank you God, for giving us family and friends, thank you for giving us the strength to unite with others for the greater good and to overcome the difficult situations that surround us to bring us closer to our families. Thank you for second and third chances at life with large and small blessings everywhere. Most of all, thank you for the love that surrounds our family, the strength in forgiveness, and the unity that we have. May we have it always. Amen." Dom said, smiling at me.

"Amen." we chorused.

I was honestly and deeply touched by his prayer today. It was short and sweet but there was such emotion and depth in his words. Words that touched all of us and it was obvious on their faces, even Dex. Everyone isn't just gonna be comfortable around him from one day to the next but, it's a work in progress. We're making strides.

We spent the rest of the evening with good food and even better company. The Nobody's left quickly after dinner, they had to get back to work. The rest of us remained on the rooftop with a few beers and some snacks. Slowly everyone else started leaving, the last ones here were Hobbs, Sam, Dom, Letty, the baby, Dex, and myself. Sam was dozing off with her head on my lap and the baby was fast asleep in Letty's arms.

"We should be leaving too." my uncle said.

"Hey, instead of checking in at a hotel you should follow us and crash at Dex's place for the night. Then you can head to the airport in the morning." I said after Dex heard him talking and told me to offer.

"I ..."

"We have more than enough space in the house and there's a pool that the kid can use in the morning if you leave late enough." Dex said.

"That's okay, we'll spend the night and leave tomorrow morning." Hobbs said.

"Alright Dom, we'll see you tomorrow. You should come down with us though, we bought over the playpen and some baby things that you'll need." I told him.

"Yeah, didn't think about that at all." he chuckled.

"Have you decided what you're gonna do now?" I asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Where you gonna live? And what about Elena?"

"We'll be staying here for a while, Mr. Nobody set us up with an apartment for however long we need it. At least until Elena is discharged and then we can discuss what the next steps are for all of us.

"Brand new start for everyone." I said, laying my head on his shoulder.

"Brand new starts."

"Okay, well, let's get out of here because we've got sleepy kids." my uncle said as he picked Sam up.

Once we got everything cleared up, Hobbs followed us back to the house. This time it took even less time cause less traffic and no baby in the car. Hobbs face, when we parked inside and got out of the car, was hilarious.

"You live here?" he asked.

"We will." Dex replied, kissing my forehead.

"I have no idea where anything is but I can take you to the guest bedroom." I told him.

It took us about half an hour to settle down after we arrived. Another shower and another of Dex's shirts later, we were laying in bed just watching tv. I'm already a little drowsy and definitely comfortable snuggled up to my fiancé. Hmm, it feels good to say that, he is my fiancé and we're gonna live together and keep traveling the world.

"It's yours too." he said, breaking the silence.

"What?"

"It's yours as well, love."

"What's mine?"

"The house." he said.
