I sat on the warm hood of my car enjoying the sun shining on me. I've never been a sports girl but I promised Sam that I would be here for her game. Now that my uncle is home a lot more, he's coaching her soccer team and I needed to see it to believe it. So now I'm sitting on top of my car watching all these moms with hungry cougar eyes watch my uncle. And it's absolutely disturbing and disgusting.
He got all the girls together in the middle of the field for the huddle and for this I got closer. I've heard about the ceremonial haka that he and the girls perform at the beginning of each game but I've never seen it before. This is interesting.
"They're gonna be hitting us with everything they've got, so we wanna engage with maximum speed, neutralize the shooters, and then move on to our objective. There are two things I want you to keep in mind: number one, I chose you for this squad because you are the most fearsome warriors on the planet, and number two, you go out there, you do your job, and you take'em down. Everyone and I mean everyone, mani's and pedi's at the mall later today." my uncle told all the girls before they went to stand in position.
Okay, the haka was really good. It's freaking cool.
"They're looking good, Hobbs." I said as I stood next to him.
"You made it!" he cheered, hugging me with one arm.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world and I gave Sam my word I'd be here." I replied, wrapping my arm around his waist . . . kind of.
"Kaylee!" His daughter shouted, running over to hug me.
"Hey, kiddo."
"You made it." she smiled up at me.
"I promised, didn't I? Now you go out there and kick some pink butterfly a . . ."
"Kaylee!" Hobbs shouted, this time it was in a scolding manner though.
"Butt! Kick some butterfly butt, Sam." I said, making her laugh.
"Language around the girls, Kay." he scolded.
"I know, I know, I'm sorry. I'm used to being around foul-mouthed adults." I replied with a sheepish smile.
"She was really hoping you'd come." he said, smiling back at me.
"I did everything I could to get here in time, there was a delay with my flight and I just landed 40 minutes ago. Came straight here and got a loaner from a friend." I said, pointing to the 2016 Jaguar Coupe that was parked by the sidewalk.
"Someone's forgetting her preferred vice of muscle cars. Might this be the dawn of a new vehicular era?" He joked.
"Excuse you? How dare you! I would never, that's first. My friend isn't particularly a fan of muscle cars so I had to make do with what he had in inventory if I wanted a ride. I already miss my babies." I told him in reference to my growing car collection.
"Your babies are worth a pretty penny. Last I looked, you've got a few cars in storage that look more like that Coupe than they do your Chargers and Challengers." he argued, watching the girls and shouting out plays.
"You win what you win, well I do, I don't know about you. I don't complain about it as long as I have something to take me from point A to point B. Someone special taught me to appreciate all vehicles, American muscle is just a personal preference." I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"That's true, how were your travels? You haven't been home in a while." he said, ignoring that special someone part.
"It's been nice traveling again between Mia, Cara, and going back home to Puerto Rico. I have done a few odd jobs here and there in garages just for the fun of it. For the most part, I actually just laid low and bunked in PR by the beach."
