We went back into the room and he looked over Elena's wounds, helping her clean up and change bandages before giving her the baby. Then, we walked back out and he pulled me down onto the sofa next to him. Now that I don't have the baby in my arms and it's just the two of us, I leaned my head on his shoulder and couldn't help the tears that fell. Everything we've been through in the past couple of months and everything that's happened in the past few days finally crashed onto me.
Dex, he's the biggest sweetheart, he just let me cry and said sweet things. He made promises about a future that is possible now and he was just here letting me feel my feelings. At some point, I fell asleep but not for long. When the nightmare hit me I jumped up, my heart racing as the image of a "dead" Deckard imprinted itself behind my eyes again.
"Hey, hey, Kaylee love I'm right here." Deckard said, rubbing my arms softly.
"You're here." I whispered.
He laid back on the sofa, pulling me between his legs to lay on his chest. I let his heartbeat soothe my own and calmed down quickly. As I settled, Dex used his finger to tip my head back and softly pressed his lips to mine. I slept again and this time dreamless. Deckard shook me softly to wake me up and let me know that we were landing. I went back into the room and found both Elena and Matteo asleep.
I woke Elena up to help her prepare the baby and herself to land. She told me where the baby bag was and I prepared it with all of the necessary items. When we landed, Elena was assessed by paramedics and they took her to the hospital for the correct treatment and possibly surgery. She asked me to keep the baby in the meantime and to let Dom meet him. I promised her we'd see her sooner than she thought.
There were officers on the tarmac, they took whoever was on the plane that worked for Cipher along with the pilot and co-pilot. Dex and I just passed by everyone with the baby in the car seat and kept walking. There was an officer standing next to a black car, as soon as we walked up the officer handed over the keys. I strapped in the baby's car seat as best as I could without the base and sat in the back with him. Dex kissed me quickly before hopping into the front seat and taking off.
"Where are we going?" I asked him.
"Toretto and the rest of your team won't be here for another two days. For now, we're going to my house."
"Your house?"
"Yes, I have a house in New York. I have houses in a few different states and countries, actually." he said, shrugging his shoulders.
"You never mentioned that before."
"We were having fun traveling but I'm always prepared to have somewhere to settle."
"I believe that. We have to get something for the baby though."
"I've already taken care of that." he smiled.
"What about your brother? What's going to happen to him?" I asked.
"He has his own transportation, he'll meet up with mother and they'll disappear for some time. Hopefully, they can keep out of trouble for some time." he sighed.
"Well, all of this is surely a surprise. Will there ever be a moment where there aren't any more secrets from any of us? A moment where we're just at peace?" I sighed.
"There isn't a need for secrets anymore love, anything that you want to know, all you have to do is ask. I want a fresh start for us Kay, I want us to work ... the right way." he said, looking at me through the window.
"So do I." I smiled.
After being in the car for a while, I fell asleep again, not deep sleep but asleep enough that I really can't tell how long we've been in the car. Dex woke me up and I saw a larger house than I honestly expected for a fugitive. It's also understandable because the man has money. The house has a multi-toned gray stone on the first level and matching gray siding on the second level. From the outside, it looks really pretty and once we walked inside, it didn't disappoint at all with big open spaces decorated in neutral tones. It's a really pretty house.
"There's four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs, the rest is on the first level." he said and I could sense some nerves in his tone.
"When did you buy this?" I asked, clocking a few photos of us.
"After I saw you in Australia." he replied, shocking me.
"You've had this house all of this time?"
"I was waiting for the right time to mention it but we were enjoying traveling so much. I still plan on giving you more of the world but for now, it's nice to have a home base. I wanted somewhere to come home to."
"Dex ..."
"I would like for you to move in with me, love. It doesn't have to be now if you're not ready and ..."
"I'm ready, of course I'll move in with you." I interrupted, turning and wrapping my arms around his neck.
He wrapped one arm around my waist because he was holding the car seat in the other.
"Thank heavens. Let's put him down for a nap and shower." he said, kissing me softly.
"I don't have any clothes with me." I argued, following him upstairs.
"That's not entirely true." he said, that same tone of nerves in his voice again.
"What are you talking about? What did you do?"
"Follow me." was his only reply.
He pushed open a door that was slightly ajar and I followed him into a very large master bedroom. The softest carpet ever, in a light beige color, we walked into a sort of sitting area that had a sofa and a smaller but comfortable looking chair. Separating the sitting area from the bedroom was an arch with floating shelves and a floor level cabinet in dark wood. The room was painted a light beige color as well with white molding. There was a king sized bed which doesn't surprise me at all, Dex likes bigger beds, and dark furniture in the room. Amazing and easily the biggest master bedroom I've been in. All extravagant, very Dex.
"This is crazy." I smiled as I looked around. "Dex, what is all of this?"
"I had it decorated with you in mind and if you open the closet doors, or the drawers on the right side of the dresser you'll find clothes and everything you need in your size." he sheepishly stated, rubbing the back of his head.
"Deckard ..."
"I wanted to make sure that whenever you came here, I'd have everything that you need."
"You are all that I need, the rest is nothing." I said.
"God, I love you. Isn't she amazing, little guy." he said to the slightly asleep baby.
There was a playpen in the room and I set it up quickly. Dex just watched me do this, as soon as I laid the baby down and straightened up, I found myself wrapped up in his arms. Our lips came together as if they depended on each other for survival. He picked me up and I wrapped my legs around him as he walked into the massive bathroom. I didn't really take any of it in at first. He just pressed my back against the wall and we just continued kissing until I couldn't breathe. My lips were numb and my brain a little fuzzy but I'm very okay with that. In his arms is my very happy place. Slowly, I unwrapped my legs from around his waist and slid down to my feet.
"Why?" he groaned.
"I really want a shower but now that I'm looking around, how about we take a bath instead?" I asked, placing my hand on his cheek.
"That sounds like a good idea." he smiled.
