Chapter 13 - Would She or Won't She

I followed the weird redhead through the plane and stopped when I noticed Dom's cross-chain hanging in front of a glass wall. It was either dark behind it or there was another wall keeping whatever was in there - in there. That's probably where Elena and the baby are. We'll get you out of there.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Don't worry about it, keep walking." he replied.

He left me in a tech room with a few other people. The same glares that I sent the security men were being sent my way from the people working here. I honestly ignored all of them and stood there leaning against a wall until I got instructions on what to do. I know for a fact that my team knows that I'm gone now and I can't help but wonder what they're thinking. I took advantage of the lull and the lack of supervision to send a brief text message before turning my cell phone off.

HOBBS POV

"I'm worried about her." Letty said as she looked up the stairs a couple of hours after we returned.

"I know, so am I. Let's just give her some space for now, she needs time after what she just saw." I replied, still somewhat in shock.

"I can't believe Dom would do something like that. He doesn't act reckless, he doesn't do things without considering all outcomes, he doesn't act the way that he's acting since he's been under that bitch's thumb. Driving the way he did earlier, putting innocent people in danger like that. I don't care what anyone says, that isn't him." she insisted.

"Even I know that it's not like him but tell Kaylee that. I don't know how to help her separate what's happening. We need to figure out if we're capturing Toretto, or helping him get out of something."

"I'm gonna go check up on her. I have to make sure that she's ... alright, I just wanna check up on her." Letty said after I shot her a knowing look. "This is a lot for anyone and she tends to bottle things up. I can't leave her alone."

"Alright, do that and let me know." I told her.

I'm worried about my niece, this whole Shaw ordeal has messed her up. She's in love with the fucker, finally convinced herself to give it another shot and he dies on her. He's murdered in front of her by another man who claimed to love her before. That right there is enough to push anyone over the edge. What I need to do is make sure that she doesn't act on that anger. I need to make sure she doesn't do something that she'll regret later on.

"Hobbs! We've got a problem." Letty shouted from upstairs.

"What's going on?" Tej asked.

"Why are you yelling?" Little Nobody asked.

"Letty, what is it?" I asked her.

"She's gone."

"What?"

"Kaylee isn't in any of the rooms and I looked downstairs before going back up to see if she was just avoiding me. She's not here." she said.

"What do you mean she's gone?" Roman asked.

"Where would she go?" Tej asked.

"I don't know. She's never mentioned any significant place in New York to me. Parker, do you know anything?"

"Nah man, she doesn't really talk about her private stuff. I can try tracking her p hone but she's good, too good to leave the location software active if she doesn't want to be found." he replied and he's right.

"This was too much for her." Ramsey said.

"What do you mean?" Roman asked as if it isn't the most obvious thing ever.

"When he was incarcerated, she knew he was safe-ish. That he was alive somewhere, no matter where that was. This is different, she saw him die right in front of her, she saw the life leave his body. It's enough to break anyone's heart." Ramsey said.

"She's stronger than that." I argued.

"Hobbs, the woman who walked in here is not the same woman who left here this morning. She's broken inside and I know how that feels." Letty softly spoke.

"I need to find her before she does something crazy and stupid. Tej, do your thing now and find my niece." I told him.

"I'll do my best." he sighed.

"I'll help you, there has to be something we can do to find her." Ramsey added.

I walked around to try and dispel some of the anxiety and worry that's coursing through me. She can't have just left, she wouldn't do that to her family after what Dom's doing. No, there's more to this and that's what I need to find out.

"Can you pull up the footage from the guy in the alley?" Letty asked.

"Traffic cams?" Ramsey suggested to Tej.

"I got you, multitasking is a superpower." he replied.

Together the two tech nerds started typing at a rate faster than I can muster, that's for sure, as they hacked into the traffic camera system. I'm curious about whoever this guy is, he might lead us to Toretto, which will most likely lead to my niece. The faster we find them, the more situations we can avoid.

"I knew it, I recognize that guy. That's Connor Rhodes, I met him when I was working for Shaw's brother. He wanted us to get the Nightshade device for him." Letty told us.

"Connor Rhodes, he's also linked to somebody who I'd quite like to forget." Ramsey added.

"Mose Jakande, warlord who tried to get God's Eye. I enjoyed blowing his ass up." I said, looking at the picture smugly.

"Which means that's twice that Dom has messed up Cipher's business." Tej added.

"It gives us Cipher's motive for using Toretto. The next question is why did he play along and not let us know. He still could've gone willingly." I told everyone.

"He wouldn't do that and you know it." Letty argued.

"Sadly enough, we don't know that and he sure as hell hasn't proved he's under duress." I countered.

"I know, I need to believe it though." Letty sighed.

Suddenly my phone started vibrating and I pulled it out of my pocket, sighing in relief when I saw the name. That relief wasn't long lived after reading the text message from my niece.

"We've got another problem." I told the team.

"What is it now?" Roman asked.

"Kaylee's gone to Cipher too."

"What?!" They all shouted.

"She promised Kaylee she could have Dom when they're finished with the job. She'll exact her revenge before disappearing again." I said.

"She wouldn't ..." Letty stuttered.

I showed them the message and I couldn't help but curse the damn blonde woman who is tearing my niece's family apart, hell, mine too. Kaylee is my blood, all I have left of my sister and Cipher is trying to corrupt her in a way that wouldn't have been necessary if it wasn't for her hand in Shaw's death to begin with. She's trying to seduce her into something that Kaylee will never be able to come back from, that's what worries me. I'll take that blonde bitch down if it's the last thing I do. I'm going to protect my niece, even from herself if I have to.

"Damn it! Now Cipher's got Dom and Kaylee. We really are in trouble now." Tej said.

"I need to make sure Kay doesn't do something she'll regret for the rest of her life. We need to find her before that happens." I told him.

"Do you think she'd really do it?" Roman asked me but he was looking over at Letty.

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Or hell hath no fury like a heart broken and angry latina." I said.
