A loud knock on my house door wakes me up.
"Let us in!" I hear a rude, deep voice demand. I hear my mom open the door.
"Can I help you?" I hear her ask.
"Florida police..." There is a pause and I can just imagine him showing a badge.
"We need to speak with a Jordan Lee."
I let out a noise somewhere between a snort and a whimper. I hear heavy footsteps walking up the stairs, they approach my door and- BANG! My door opens with a crash. I sit up in my bed abruptly.
"Can I-" A man in a police uniform grabs my arm and yanks me out of my bed.
"Hey! Let go of me!"
"You're under arrest for attempted murder."
"What? Murder? The only killing I do is of zombies on my Xbox!"
"Ya, right. You're coming with us kid."
"Can I at least get changed first?"
The police stand outside my door as I get changed. I just pull on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Why are they accusing me of attempted killing? I have no idea what this is about. Well, that's a lie, I do. Yesterday when I went to the hospital to see Anika, Dru came. Behind her she had a camera crew. Now everyone thinks I pushed Anika in front of a car. Before I leave the bathroom I stare at myself in the mirror. Whatever happens, I don't care. As long as Dru Brown goes down.
The back of the police car looks just like it does in the movies. I'm not wearing handcuffs, why should I? I didn't do anything wrong. My mom had to drive over in her car, she's meeting us at the station.
I remember a time when I fell asleep under a tree. This tree was mine and Amy's tree. Amy used to be my friend before she moved. Now I barely ever go there. I dreamed that Amy and I got in big trouble and were arrested. Then, she moved and I never heard from her again.
"Get out." I hadn't noticed that we were at the station. The officer holds the door open for me and I get out of the cruiser. That's when the handcuffs are put on.
"Seriously? I told you I didn't do anything!"
"Until we have proof, you're going to have to stay here."
"Who do I have to convince?"
"Someone by the name of Dru Brown."
"Why do I have to convince her?"
"Because Anika is her friend."
"No she is not! Ask Anika, my mom, Anika's mom or anyone from school. Dru hates Anika and I!"
"I'm not the one you have to convince."
When I walk inside my mom, Dru and Anika's mom are there. Surprise, surprise, so is a camera crew.
"She didn't do it she was home sick." Says Gin.
"That's 3 against one, you have to believe us." My mom says.
"Well, I'm pressing charges." States Dru.
"You can't press charges for no apparent reason." I say.
"I have a reason you nearly killed-"
"Here's, the story sir. I went to a party a few nights ago. Dru here poured stuff on me, I have video proof." I grab my moms phone and show the officer the video.
"I'm pretty sure there's a law against that." Says the officer.
"I woke up the next day, yesterday, with a cold. So, my mom took the day off to stay home with me. Ask her work, it's true. Then, my mom got a call from the hospital saying that Anika was there. We got there as fast as we can. A few minutes later, Dru, who despises Anika and I, comes with a camera crew and says a bunch of lies to sabotage me for my next swimming competition."
"Seems real." Says the officer.
I notice Dru is quite quiet.
"I, she," Dru stutters.
"Jordan, Ms. Lee, you're free to leave. I would like to speak with Dru here."
Thank goodness.
There is no way Dru will sabotage me before this competition.
