Chapter 30

Inside Zero's death

Zero's POV

I glanced up at Lucifer and his words were foggy but I heard what he said.

"I won't let anybody hurt her"

I couldn't get my words to form and nothing but gurgling made its way out before I finally spoke the words I needed him to hear.

"I will protect her with my life" I said before everything became cold and black.

I saw nothing but blackness and my life began flashing before my eyes.

I saw her beautiful face and she smiled a warm smile as I kissed her lips in my visions.

She danced around me and I gazed at her beauty as she did. Tears ran down my face as I realized that I was indeed dying the death that I had longed for my whole life.

I remembered the feeling of her skin, the taste of her lips and even the feel of her hair and the smell of her skin. I held her close to me and she looked up at me with tears in her eyes now.

"Watch over me Zero" she said as she stared at me with those beautiful hazel eyes.

"No, I won't leave you, I can't, I won't" I sobbed as her body began to slip right through my grasp and before too long she was gone.

I felt the sting of death and my whole body went numb before there was a rumble within my soul.

"I'm not ready to die" I screamed at the top of my lungs but it wasn't my own voice I heard.

It was my voice but yet it wasn't. My mouth never moved and my hands that I held in front of my face weren't mine. They were cold and white with death.

This is it, I'm dying. I thought as I looked to the sky that was black and void of any color.

I ran within the void in a desperate act to find Lauren.

"I LOVE YOU, PLEASE, COME BACK, DON'T LEAVE ME!" I screamed but felt no tears this time.

I saw nothing but black and than I saw her frail body walking within the black.

She didn't see or hear me but I screamed her name through my death.

"LAUREN!!!" I screamed but my voice echoed and bounced back to where only I could hear it in my head.

I reached my hand out to her but her body walked away and never looked back as I sobbed in agony.

"IM SO SORRY, DON'T LEAVE ME I BEG YOU" I screamed as my voice soon faded to nothing and she was gone again.

I ran desperately through the darkness of death desperate to find her again before I fell to my knees.

I slammed my fists against what I thought was the ground but I felt no ground. I than began to fall through the back and with panic I screamed her name through the darkness.

Visions of her face flew all around me and our memories danced within my darkness.

The times we made love, all the times I wiped her tears, the first time we met and she called my scar beautiful. The first time I saw her face that made my heart skip a beat and every laugh she ever graced me with. Every smile I put on her face made my soul ache with longing to hold her again.

She needed me and I left her. I left her there to die.

Just than I fell back into my body with a hard thud and I began violently puking. My whole body ached to its very core and I was both cold and hot at the same time. My mouth was covered in blood and anxiety and fear tore through my soul like a cancer.

I violently began shaking and I couldn't stop the whales that escaped my mouth no matter how hard I tried.

Pain ripped through my being and it was even more painful than death.

But than I saw her face again and it was like I fell in love all over again. My heart began to slow its pace and only her fear filled face was what I saw.

"Are you ok" was the only words I could get out but her being was full of fear but not fear of me.

Tears soaked her face and I managed to rub my thumbs across her eyes to dry them the best that I could. But I was weak and my hands dropped to my side with exhaustion.

I saw the face of Athan and Lucifer who hovered over me but I couldn't understand what they were saying to each other as they spoke and all I wanted to do was hold her in my arms again.

Lucifer looked completely drained but also happy and full of relief once I had actually spoke.

"What happened to me, where are we" I said in a whisper as I couldn't take my eyes off of Lauren who sat with a blanket around her.

"We are hiding inside an abandon dumpster, there used to be a big city here a long time ago but the place is abandon now" said Athan as he held his hand against my forehead.

"His temperature is normal, the thirst and other symptoms will come slowly tho"

I was confused at his words and mustered up the energy to ask what they were talking about.

"What?"

Athan smiled a half smile and looked around in thought.

"Well, you suffered a really bad stab wound, in order for you not to die, I had to give you my blood mixed with Lucifer's" he said. I turned my head to look at the rest of our friends. Drake sat in the corner of the place we were in with his blind fold over his eyes and he hugged his knees. The girls all sat together and wrapped in blankets. None of them looked harmed and that I was glad about. Cain laid sleeping next to the girls and there was a giant bruise on his face that took up the whole right side of his face. Lucifer sat next to Athan but didn't look harmed and only tired.

Just than every memory of what happened came back to me all at once.

"I I is everybody alive and okay?" I asked as I glanced at everybody in our group.

Lucifer nodded his head. "Actually, if it wasn't for you, Lauren would have been stabbed not you, you are literally her hero, and if it wasn't for Athan, all of us would have been killed" he said.

Just than I started hearing Athan's voice but his mouth wasn't moving. He was sitting on the ground next to me with his legs cris cross and his head resting on his hand and his elbow resting on his knee.

He was thinking about different ways to help me get through the sickness of a vampire change and how he would make it less painful.
