42. Connect the dots

The next morning Simon got up pretty early and left his room, "Where are you going, brother?"

Zhan who was going to the temple asked him, Simon patted his shoulder, "I need to meet Marquis, we plan on going drinking later I'll meet you at the execution place"

Zhan nodded, "Alright, say my Hi to the marquis."

Simon nodded and took out his horse before going out of the mansion.

While Zhan happily went to the temple where he met Yibo, who hugged him as soon as saw him, "I have no idea how you did this but thank you, Sean, I am happy beyond limits today."

Zhan smiled and hugged Yibo back, "It's my pleasure to help you, your highness."

"Yibo then broke the hug and after so many days Zhan saw a bright beautiful smile in Yibo's eyes and his shiny eyes which made Zhan really happy.

"Today is a big day for you prince, let's thank the goddess for our victory."

Yibo nodded,  and the two met with Silas who gave them a gentle smile before offering their prayers to the goddess.

Goddess, please help me from now onwards as well, the path I choose to walk is full of thorns but If I can meet you at the end of it then I am ready to walk on the toughest path.

While Yibo remembered his mother and Nanny,

 "Mom, nanny today I have taken a step closer to avenge you both I hope you are watching."

Meanwhile, Simon reached the place where he wanted to go, and there he met Zhehan.

"Thank you for meeting me here, Marquis," Simion said Zhehan.

"No problem Sir Simon but may I ask why do you want to meet him."

"I can't tell that to you but I need some answers," Simon said, "Please can we hurry up?"

"I can allow you to meet him but just so you know everytime someone asks him why all eh answers is he don't know."

Zhehan said and asked Simon to follow him he took Simon inside a building that was dark from inside and heavily guarded bit Zhehan had influence here so he could get in.

The two soon stopped in front of a cell, "Duke Simon, here he is...Raymond Kyrith."

Simon nodded and asked to step inside the cell, when he stepped inside the cell he saw Raymond sitting at his place, staring in space he didn't move or did anything even after noticing Simon's presence.

" Sir Raymond, "Simon called out to him and slowly sat in front of him, "Sir Raymond can you hear me?"

Raymond slowly moved his head up and looked Simon dead in the yes, Sir Raymond please tell me why did you do it? Why did you try to assassinate the emperor."

Raymond who looked like he had lost his mind spoke, "I don't know."

Simon nodded, "I see, let me ask again since when have the thought of assassinating the emperor came to your mind? since when did you start thinking about attacking the emperor? Or since when things started to be odd for you?"

Raymond looked at Simon, quietly he seemed to be thinking something before he opened his mouth and spoke, "After the duke's sentence."

Simon froze for a second, he wanted to ask something else as well but Zhehan stopped him, "Duke we need to go the guards are here to take Sir Raymond."

Simon was hesitant at first, but he decided to follow Zhehan, no one was allowed to meet this traitor and they broke this rule, Simon didn't want Zhehan to get into trouble because of him so he followed Zhehan.

After some time he and Zhehan stood in front of the execution stage, a large crowd had gathered and they were all cheering.

Yibo stood on the stage with a sword while Zhan found Simon in the crowd and stood beside him.

One by one the Kyrith family was bought in front of the crowd and people threw stones and slippers at them.

Raymond was quiet but his family was crying, yelling, and begging for mercy, his old wife his son, his daughter-in-law as well his two little grandsons were going to be executed.

"I still don't understand" Zhehan spoke, and Simon listened, "How can someone as powerful as him, whose daughter was the empress and son was a general do something so stupid it doesn't make any sense. Everything was going nice for him then why?"

Simon then remembered Adeena's words," I had heard that the duchess was truly an angel, she was always kind to everyone and treated everyone equally, she was never arrogant or let the wealth and power get to her.

She loved duke a lot as well, she could die for her, but she changed after you two...After you two were gone, she changed so drastically that people thought that she was possessed."

Simon was bought out of his deep thoughts when the crow cheered and he saw the prince beheading, Raymond, followed by his family one by one and he actually seemed to enjoy doing that, considering what had happened to his family Simon can understand.

But then he looked at Zhan who seemed delighted as well.

Just why are these people dying? 

Simon then saw Raymond's two grandsons on eight-year and the other nine years old beheaded as well.

Why are these innocent children dying? And why is Zhan related to all of this?

Irene changed after they had disappeared and Simon didn't remember the day of the accident but Zhan did, that day was the last day with Irene and Simon don't remember that day.

When the duke was sent into the dungeons Zhan was there along with Raymond, in all of these cases Zhan is the key.

Looks like Simon really doesn't know anything about Zhan, it's as if this person standing beside him is someone else, not the brother had grown up with.

But how come Zhan was able to convince Raymond to commit treason? No one in their right mind would do it unless they are forced but how can Zhan force or blackmail Raymond.

 "I don't know."

No, Raymond wasn't forced neither he was blackmailed in fact his mind wasn't even clear, then how come...

Simon's eyes suddenly widened when an idea popped up in his mind, Is it perhaps...
