Rowan didn't know how long had past since he'd flown, but he was prepared.
He took old sheets from a cupboard and made them into a large makeshift parachute cape, following designs of squirrel wingsuits. It tied to his neck, wrists and ankles with knots and around his waist with a belt. As well as this he found a bike helmet and snow goggles in a charity shop and added them to the outfit. This was so he could lower himself better and safer, the only down side was it didn't look very cool.

He took his costume in a bag to the mountain and once alone got changed. He felt a bit stupid in his homemade outfit but moved on. And got ready to drop himself. The boots booted up lol and he began to rise from the ground below. His cape shook quickly behind him but it stayed on. The limited vision from the goggles didn't bother him as he passed the trees and surfaced above them. The town got smaller as he rose higher and higher.

He was at least a hundred feet above the ground, he looked down at the island through big goggles and felt his heart race knowing where he was. He laughed at what he'd done but waved his arms around to get balanced again.

He started to go lower, a few feet at a time. Lowering himself, then stopping and catching his balance. Until he smelt burning. He spun around to see smoke and down to see the boots set his cape alight. Doing this lost him his balance and he fell forward, letting his boots carry him straight down then back around. The air travelled through his whole body as he wasted a second with the thought of his death before stretching out and letting the boots take him back. He had bursts of momentum as he sent himself on a downward path around the mountain. He felt the air as he pushed past it. His cape flapped as he remembered a fire he had to worry about.
He couldn't get the goggles over his helmet so pushed them down around his neck as he steepened his decent. He could stop panicking now as he was sure he'd land in the water, but the goggles flung up and hit his right eye and he spun around and down and before he knew it he was wet.
He turned his jet boots off but was kinda fucked, tangled in his cape meters underwater, so he turned his boots on and thank a god he didn't believe in that they worked.
He resurfaced and sat behind the mountain, letting himself float. He took off his helmet and goggles and threw his arms in the air.
"WOOOOOOOHH!" He called out to the sky.

He felt his eye starting to hurt as he walked home to see his mother in the front room.
"What happened to you?" She asked, more upbeat then concerned.
"Got in a fight." He said, quickly carrying his heavy bag upstairs.
Luckily his mother didn't care enough to ask more about it.

He locked his door and dumped the bag on the only part of the floor without dirty clothes or papers. He saw in his mirror he had a black eye, but he cared as much as his mother so ignored it.
He took a moment to look at his face. It felt strange that he'd not considered what he looked like while living because it's the person in front of him who people see.
He spent too long looking at himself.

The next day was boring, but Rowan couldn't shake the feeling he was being watched.

He slogged through maths and stuff until he was on his way to science, he was approached by a girl he knew.
"Hey." He sighed.
"Rowan... have you heard from Leon?" She asked.
"Um... no?" Rowan answered, confused as to why he had to.
"Shit." She sighed, "He's been gone for a while now, he's ignoring me when I go around." She explained when an idea came to her, "You don't have a day to see him do you?"
"Yes, any school day." He said, only half joking.
"Can you go check on him?" She asked, writing down an address.
"Um, I guess." Rowan said, taking the paper, "...are you and him..?"
"I don't wanna talk about it." She sighed when she heard her friends from a bit away.
"YAZ!" They shouted and she took her leave to her friends.
