Rowan woke up to a message from Ire of all people. She said she'd seen a man turn into a tiger and asked if he knew about it. It was getting to midday and Rowan and Piper met up with her, Wolf and Tom at the chippy near Oldry.Rowan introduced Piper to everyone and she was surprised to see, except for Tom who everyone would describe as tiny, she was the shortest. Funnily they found Wolf was the youngest but tallest (behind Rowan, who was cheating by being male).
"Rowan said about you." Ire said, "You're in Glandeg yea?"
"Well I moved there, I'm from here."
"Is it nice being back?" Ire asked.
"Beats the middle of nowhere." Piper joked.
"Now you're in the top of nowhere." Tom added.
"So where'd he go?" Wolf asked.
"Out of town." Ire told.
"Ok it's not an actual tiger tho, is it?" Wolf asked.
"No yea it is. It had a bag pack too." Tom said.
And so the five went through the town, hunting a tiger."THERE HE IS!" Tom yelled, seeing him behind the fire station.
They hopped the green fences which had spread down town and snuck through trees after a tiger. It began to dawn on them how stupid this was.
"Everyone get in the trees." Rowan told.
"Tigers can climb trees." Ire said.
"Fuck..."
So instead he got his jet boots on and hovered a bit above the tiger, who just watched him.
"I know you're a weretiger!" Rowan yelled down.
The tiger shook his head and turned back into a boy and put on some trousers from his bag. He was a little older then Rowan, Rowan guessed around seventeen from his moustache, although they might have been whiskers."I don't like people knowing my secret." The boy growled. He then turned into a half tiger half boy tigerboy and tried to jump for Rowan but couldn't reach him in the air.
Rowan lowered himself and ran at the tigerboy, who did the same.
"Rowan!" Ire yelled from behind the tigerboy.
The tigerboy turned around, surprised someone else was there and Rowan punched his half tiger face to the ground.
"Now we're talking!" Wolf smiled, taking out her robot sword from a few chapters ago.
"You're not actually gonna use that are you?" Tom asked, worried for the tiger, even if it was a boy/tiger/tigerboy.
"Maybe, I've not had the chance to stab anything yet." She grinned menacingly.
"I should've brought the hook!" Piper sighed.
"U shouldn't've." Rowan said, "Had enough of coconut." A smile growing on his face. The tigerboyboytiger got up from the ground and clenched his big boytiger clawfists.
Wolf ran up to the two and joined, swinging her sword around. The tigerboy swung at Rowan and sent him to the floor.
Piper found rocks and began throwing them at the tigerboy.
Rowan shot up and uppercut the tigerboys tiger chin but it didn't do much so boytiger backhanded Rowan behind him.
Wolf slashed her sword around now, closer to the tigerboy.
"Back!" She yelled.
The tigerboy looked insulted.
"Do you know how to use that?" He asked.
"Umm..." Wolf looked at the sword when tigertigerboy punched her to the floor.
Tom and Ire yelled for her and started running over.
She struggled to get up and yelled for her friends to stay back.
"Duck!" She heard from behind the tigerboytiger so she did.
The tigerboyboy spun to see Rowan with his leg raised at him. His jet boots activated and blasted the boytigerboy over Wolf and into some bushes. The five kids went to the tigerboy. Rowan and Wolf hurting for the beating.
"Are you still gonna kill us?" Wolf asked, worried of the answer.
"...no." Tigerboy said softly, getting up.
"You're pretty cool, sorry about that." Rowan said.
"...dick." Tigerboy sighed.
"We're not gonna tell anyone, who's gonna believe us?" Ire said.
"Whatever." Tigerboy sighed, turning into a shitless boy again and sulking off.
"That was cool." Tom smiled. They sat on Oldry beach and had fish and chips. It was a nice day for February.
"Are you still going to deny stuff?" Ire asked Wolf with a smirk.
"Well that's... hm." Wolf stopped herself, "I was gonna try but that's stupid, cuz we just saw it. I'm not gonna deny it, no. But what was it?"
"You'd know werewolf." Ire teased.
"So you name's actually Wolf?" Piper asked, "Your parents called you Wolf?"
"No, I changed it, my last names Were, so when teachers read it out it's Were Wolf. Maisie's Vamp Ire and Lois' Skele Ton. I know, we're geniuses." She said proudly.
"I mean, if anyone was a werewolf, we'd keep the secret." Piper said, "They could tell us... if they wanted."
"I'm not a werewolf.""Rowan's not told us a lot about you." Ire said.
"Well what's to tell?" Piper smiled at the boy. "Anyway, you're The Mash! I heard about you!"
"Oh... um yea." Ire laughed.
"What actually happened?" Piper asked.
"You don't know?" Ire asked, "We just took the speakers and put The Monster Mash on repeat."
"Yea then everyone left." Tom added, "It was awesome. Best New Years ever."
"The academy's doing a valentines dance." Ire said. Tom and Wolf shared a glance, hearing the call.
"Ew." Rowan mocked, not knowing what she meant.
He sat up the second he got it.
"Oh fuck yea."
"I'm not gonna be aloud in tho am I?" Piper asked.
"I guess you'll... have to be someones date." Ire said, making the whole mood awkward.
Rowan looked away to hide the heat rising on his face.
"Yea..." Piper said quietly, looking at the really interesting sand.
"You can be my date." Tom smiled and locked her arm with Pipers.
"Thanks." Piper laughed, happy they could move on.
"So you two'll be on the ground?" Rowan asked.
"I'll go with them," Ire added, "You two be up in the sound room, if anyone tries to go up we'll stop them." She told Wolf and Rowan.Once they had a rough plan, Rowan and Piper said goodbye to the girls and went to the waterfall.
They put on their jet boots and held hands. Rowan gave Piper the bike helmet, not that it'd do much but the thought was there. The boots worked again and soon they were past the tree line.
Piper felt more and more worried the higher they got, but knowing Rowan was with her calmed her down.
They were slowly going higher. Not backing down only because the other was in front of them. They didn't look down. They saw the sky change. Starting at a distance. Like an optical illusion slowly breaking, being seen for what it is. The distant sky grew more flat. It spread out further and closer the higher the two got, until they were sure what they were seeing was the top. They weren't even that high, Rowan had seen planes higher then where the two were, so why was the top right above him.
The sky flattened out more until it surrounded them, closer and closer and they saw the sky for what it really was.
They steadied out and stopped moving. Rowan let go of one of Pipers hands and she held around his chest for safety.
The boy flew slowly upwards with his hand raised, until he felt the cold touch of the skys end.
