Leon stayed home the first day of June while the others sat in SunGlass City. They looked back at Zazus and the towers online, and at their footage from underground. They had only assumed that Zazus knew about the sky, and they were the ones in that bunker, but Rowan looked at the footage differently now. The images of locations around the island, they weren't about the locations, because every image showed the same clouds. The clouds Piper said were above the sky. It wasn't solid proof, but it was a lot more then they had before. It began to rain midday so the five went to Wolfs room because her parents were out and her brother still had school in Llenfell.
On their way they saw a man on a phone call. Rowan swore he'd been there since he woke up, but that would be silly.Later in Wolfs room, Rowan brought up Ires verse, and that she had moths.
"Harry?" He teased.
"God no!"
She stayed quiet and everyone knew it was the only person not listening. By now everyone knew.
"You should tell her." Piper said.
"Yea go for it girl." Wolf added.
Ire got all red and Tom didn't notice anything, she was just drawing coconats and mushroom men.
"What if, it ruins everything?" Ire asked.
"It won't." Wolf reassured her.
"You won't know." Rowan said, "But it'll ruin worse if you leave it."
"I dunno... really?" Ire sighed.
"I think it's time." Wolf nodded.
Ire looked to Rowan.
"I'm really not the right person to say." He laughed, "I don't believe in relationship. But you should- if you want a- one, you should go for it. Don't let me- don't listen to me."
Wolf, Rowan and Piper said they would go downstairs and let Ire confess to Tom. After so long, she was ready."Hey Mars." Ire began very nervously.
"What's up?" Tom smiled, blissfully unaware.
Ire stopped herself for a second, was it really better to tell her? She seemed so happy, but Ire more then anyone knew it wasn't always real.
"I've got to tell you. Kind of about what Harry was on about." She began again. "He wasn't lying. I haven't told you everything. Why I broke up with him. Because I started getting feelings for someone else."
"Uhuh." Tom made herself smaller.
"Now it's the hardest thing to tell you."
"I don't wanna..." Tom said quietly.
"I have to tell you."
"Wh-"
"I love you."
"...I love you too." She said like normal.
"No, like, I'm in love with you."
"You're-?"The other three sat downstairs and scanned Zazus online, where they came from, who worked there. The only names were Dennis Dugdale and Leighton Simone, people who had full wikipedia pages they weren't sure were real.
"Mars?" Ire asked.
Tom stayed silent for a moment and looked out the window.
"Oh wow." She said.
"What?" Ire asked.
"It's Zazus." She pointed down at two men in suits at the door.Downstairs they heard a knocking at the door. Wolf reluctantly went over.
"We're looking for Ton Skele, Skel- Lois Baxter, she used to he called Lois Baxter."
"Don't answer the door!" Tom ran downstairs.
Wolf looked through the spy hole.
"It's them!" She began to panic.
"Wow." Rowan saw as well, "Check the back."
So Ire went.
"It's clear!" She told, and everyone followed.
"Okay this is it." Rowan planned, "Meet up at SunGlass City." He couldn't wipe the grin from his face.
"Dude!" Ire brought him back.
"Okay, you lot go, I'll stall them here for a bit, see how much they know, if they follow you take the boots and just get the train. Just go. Phone Leon then ditch your phone."
"Rowan?" Wolf stuttered.
"It's what we signed up for." He nodded.
They all knew it, so went along.Ire took all her money and Piper carried all the food and they fled up the hills, ignoring their sinking hearts. They ran as fast as they could, not noticing the pouring rain.
As they hid in SunGlass City, Piper couldn't help but fantasise about being on the run, how awful it would be, but how amazing as well. Her and Tom felt this, Wolf and Ire only argued and panicked.Rowan stayed behind and went slowly to the door.
"Hello?" The men called from outside, "Is anyone there? Mister or Misses Hale?"
"Are from under the breakwater?" Rowan asked from behind the locked door.
"Who are we talking to?" One asked.
"Is the seal on your side?" He just thought of.
"We need to speak to the owner of this house.""How long do we wait?" Wolf asked.
"Until he comes back." Piper answered.
"If." Ire added.
"If?" Piper repeated.
"You know Rowan he's gonna get himself killed." She said.
"He's comin' back." Wolf tried to calm down."Do you know who I am?" Rowan asked.
He knew he was playing with fire but couldn't help enjoying it, after all it was still just playing.
"We've been trying to find someone." One said.
"We've been told her friend lives here." The other said.
"Really?" Rowan laughed.
"Yes, she changed her name and ran away."The heavy rain slowly let the girls know they weren't alone. Piper felt it at first, then Ire, that someone was watching them. Wolf assumed it was her imagination in panic, but after a moment remembered where she'd felt it before.
They shared looks until Piper saw a shadow behind Ire and Tom. They all shot up and backed away.
"Rowan said about the shadow." Piper said.
"It's the same." Wolf got out. She couldn't couldn't take her eyes off of the shadow.
It just watched the girls.
"It's the deal maker isn't it?" Asked Ire.
"What's Rowan done?" Piper asked.
"Rowan?" The shadow said through the rain.
It looked at Tom, and she was as tiny as ever."If you know Lois Baxter, please tell her we're here." The men told.
"...what do you want with her?" Asked the boy.
"We're with Haswold Foster Care." One said.
"On behalf of the FCC." Said the other.
Rowan paused a moment. How much did they know? How much did he know. He never asked about Toms parents, or why she lived with her Taid.
A business card came through the letterbox for Foster Care Compatriots. It looked real enough.
"What happened to her taid?" Rowan asked.
"If you open the door we can talk-"
"She's not here." He said quickly.
"Is anyone else there?" Asked one.
Rowan kept on walking back.
"Hello?" They called.
He held the card. 'They're good' he thought."What do you want with her?" Ire shouted.
Wolf took out her sword and Piper her hook.
"Get behind me." Ire said to Tom as she took out her shield.
"No." Tom said quietly.
Ire look back at her, then down the mountain where she thought Zazus was.
"This isn't- what's wrong?" She asked.
"You don't want to get messy again." The shadow taunted.
"Stay back!" Wolf held her sword strong.
"Wait!" Tom leapt in front of it, defending the shadow.Rowan left quickly through the back and knew something wasn't right. The sky began to fold, or just move, the smallest bit but undoubtably, and this time he had himself. He ran as fast as he could up to the others.
"Tom?" Ire asked.
"You..?" Wolf asked.
"Why don't you tell them?" The shadow said in Toms ear.
"You... you don't like me." Tom said, just loud enough to hear, "Why'd you say that?"
"I'm... I'm sorry." Ire said.
"She's sorry." The shadow said to Tom.
"Stop it!" Wolf yelled.
"Did you make a deal?" Piper asked.
"She's been up to all sorts." The shadow laughed.
"What did you do?" Wolf asked, nervous to hear an answer.
"I... I took Rowans diary."
"Dude?" Ire asked.
"You... you... I... school ended. We- wouldn't see each other if there was nothing to fight."
"Tom?" Wolf shook her head.
"I had to- and he said- and- and- you started going out with Rowan."
"W- we never-" She explained but knew it wasn't important.
"What did you do?" Ire raised her voice.
"I was trying to fix everything!" Tom panicked, "I had to keep us together! Or we'd..."
"What was the deal!!?"
"And Taid..." She began to well up, "...they all leave... everyone leaves."
"Mars what did you give him?"
"...I gave him a day." She tried to smile, "He said he only wanted a day."
