It was the day of the valentines dance, so it was valentines day, no shit, sorry. The schools hall was opened for it and they all snuck in an hour before the party started. The place had been done up, but it was SVA so was still shit.
Their plan was similar to the last, they were going to hijack the sound system and after careful consideration, play All Star on loop. To go along with this, they planed to release as many green balloons from the ceiling as they could get. Green for Shrek. Obviously.

Rowan, Piper and Wolf were up in the sound room above the hall blowing up balloons and stuffing them into the rafters.
Ire and Tom snuck around and got the bluetooth of all the speakers. Taking turns to watch out.
Wolfs laptop had the looped song on standby as Ire connected it into the speakers and they all waited in the sound room for the party to start, sat against the walls.

"This is so stupid, why'd we do All Star." Ire laughed.
"We should've just done The Monster Mash." Tom said, not for the first time.
"Shrek's good." Piper said.
"There's nothin' else though no." Wolf said.
"We could've written a song." Rowan said.
"Shitting on valentines?" Piper smiled, "Then played it in front of everyone. That'd be mad."
"Can you even write songs?" Ire asked.
"Um... Well I was in a band." Rowan said, not answering the question.
"You were in a band?" Wolf asked, surprised.
"Kinda."
"Were you gonna play at New Years?" Ire asked.
"No! Did we ruin that for you?" Tom asked, feeing bad at just the thought.
"No, we wouldn't." Rowan reassured, "Anyway, we broke up before that. It was us two and Micheal." He explained, referring to Piper.
"Micheal didn't want to be in it, then I moved, so..." Piper told.

Soon the hall got crowded, by students in red and black romantic colours. They watched down from the sound room, being sure not to be seen, and laughed at the kids below.
Ire, Tom and Wolf laughed because of how fun their plan was and Rowan and Piper laughed because they were gonna ruin love.

"Ok so we're gonna go, you two good?" Ire asked, opening the door.
"Yea, we got this." Wolf smiled.
Ire, Tom and Piper left for the party.

Rowan climbed into the rafters joining the balloons and looked back for Wolf.
"Wolf?"
"Boo!" She yelled, jumping in his face.
Rowan jumped as she just laughed.
"Stop scaring me!" Rowan tried to laugh as well.
They laid in the ceiling on their stomachs and watched the party below, having moved a tile out the way.

"Y'know, I always wanted to be in a band." The girl said.
"Yea?"
"Yea, I..." She stopped herself.

Piper, Ire and Tom sat at a small table to the side, waiting for the go ahead.
Ire noticed Piper spacing out.
"Bet you never thought you'd be back here."
"Hm? No, I didn't." She forced enthusiasm.
"Doesn't anyone recognise you?" Tom asked.
"Bet not y'know, no one ever noticed us."
They tried to hear each other over the music and voices.

"Wait. Micheal and Kate are down there." Rowan said.
"So what, aren't they in loovvvve?" Wolf quoted him.
"Yea but... they're alright." He said looking down at them. Wolf looked too. Micheal and Kate were sitting to the side. They were alone, but they looked happy Wolf thought.
She paused.
Rowan sighed,
"This is stupid." He huffed, turning to lay on his back. He put his hands over his eyes.

"Do you know a lot of conspiracies." Tom said.
"Um, I guess." Piper answered.
"Like cool ones? Did Rowan tell you about the tree man? Or that robot?" Tom went on, "Wanna see it? It's probably still there. Or there's the rhinos!"
"Umm."
"It's okay." Ire said, putting her hand on Toms shoulder.
"Um, you remember the shark mascots?" Piper told and Tom nodded, "We fought them, they were robots and flew about that-" She stopped herself.
"Wow really!?" Tom asked excitedly.
"Is that where Rowan got them?" Ire asked.
"Oh you know?"
"Yea, Rowan took Wolf up with them." She told.
"Oh."

Rowan held his hands above his face and studied them.
"Thought you were against relationships?" Wolf asked.
"Yea, I dunno." He dropped his hands, "Just, Micheal and Kate are... happy. They're just, in each others company, and they're happy about it."
Wolf stayed silent.
"I don't even care." The boy brushed off, covering his face again.
Wolf looked at the boys hands. Then to his arm as she remembered what was there.
"I know what'll change your mind." She said as Teenage Dirtbag came to an end.
She stuck her head out of the gap and gave Ire a thumbs up.
"Now." Ire told and connected to the speakers.
"Ready?" Wolf asked, grabbing a hand full of balloons.
Rowan grabbed some as well.
"SomeBODY!" The speakers blurted and the two in the ceiling pushed balloons down.
The students all cheered and tried to catch the balloons.

None of them expected anyone to like the hijacking, but maybe they didn't realise it'd been hijacked yet.
Rowan pushed more balloons down, hiding his face. He looked down at the kids, all dancing and enjoying the moment.
What he'd give to forget about the sky.

The two left a dozen balloons in the rafters joined their friends in the party. A silent understanding overcame the small table. People liked what they did and the balloons were being thrown everywhere.
They could disconnected the laptop and left, having done something fun for everyone.

The five left through the back and over the hill.
"You were a pretty good date!" Tom joked.
"Thanks." Piper laughed along.
"How long are you staying?" She asked.
"Oh, um I'm going back tomorrow actually."
Wolf looked away.
"Oh..." Tom looked sad.
"What's up?" Ire asked.
"She can't come to the arcades." She told Ire.
Piper looked confused, she saw Rowan just as confused until Ire explained,
"We're going Llanllanllan for the arcades."
"Yea and for your birthday!" Tom rocked Ire back and forth and Ire laughed, a little embarrassed.
"Oh. Well happy birthday for then thought." Piper said, "And I'll be back in the summer. We can fight monsters and go to arcades and that"
"Awesome." Tom said hugging Piper.
"Rowan, do you wanna come tho? It's in a few weeks." Ire asked.
"Um, yea. Yea that'd be sick." He smiled.
"Sick." Ire said.

They all said goodbye and Rowan and Piper went back to his.
They didn't say much. They'd touched the sky and Piper was going home in the morning, there wasn't much to say.

The two looked out the window, watching the sky get darker and wondering where the top was now. There were stars, but they weren't sure whether to believe them. That strange feeling filled the room. The small lamp was the only light colouring the blue bedroom.
They stayed under the sky, listening to the album Piper couldn't get through before. Track after track of songs they knew would make them cry in the future.
There were no clouds. The calm sky spread far and for the first time, they felt the size of the world.
"Monday's gonna suck." Rowan sighed.
Piper sat back against her bed.
"You still got that ghost man to keep you company." She joked.
"Yea." Rowan smiled.
"Do... do you think he's... like, related to the sky?"
"...I-" Rowan struggled to get his words out, "I think so. He... felt the same."
