Tom rushed ahead of the other two girls in the hallways when she saw Rowan and rambled about a scarecrow.
"Wait, what's going on?" Rowan asked the other two as they caught up.
"There's a haunted scarecrow in T-Bay." Ire told.
"Do you wanna come? We're gonna go see it tonight!" Tom waved her hands about.
"...sure." The boy smiled.Rowan had to use Sayles old bike to get down to T-Bay. The girls had two bikes between them, Wolf had her own and Tom sat on the back of it while Ire borrowed Wolfs little brothers. Without him knowing of course.
They made their way to a field near the bridge and saw a scarecrow in the large fruitful field.
They got comfy behind a stone wall and watched it."It was the farmers kid." Tom explained, "He died and the farmer put his clothes on the scarecrow and it made everything grow better."
"So it's a good ghost." Rowan said.
"They say."Wolf just huffed.
"You gonna say ghosts aren't real now?" Ire teased.
"Not sayin' anything. But if they are, and it's evil, we can take it!" Wolf said, pulling out her sword and swinging it about.
"You're obsessed with that." Ire laughed.
"A bit yea." She replied, putting it away and watching the scarecrow. There was silence as they watched the scarecrow swaying in the breeze.
"So it doesn't do anything?" Rowan asked, the feeling of nothing washing him.
"Well it's a nice ghost." Tom answered.
"...awesome." He nodded "...I'm gonna go home now." He got on his bike.
"See you." Ire waved.
"You gonna to the party yea? See you at the party!" Tom yelled as he rode off.The next night was the party night!
The girls got together and walked to the large house glowing with techno lights. Tom could feel the lights hit her and the ground shake with the thumping music. She clutched the bottom of her hoodie tightly and planted herself still.Ire put her arm around Tom and got her attention back to the moment.
"You okay Mars?" She asked. To which Tom just nodded and tried to smile. "If it's too much, just tell me and we'll leave, yea?" She added.
Tom smiled for real and they headed into the party.Rowan was already in the big house when the girls arrived. They saw him standing alone against a wall, a red cup in hand.
He didn't see them, he just looked around awkwardly.
Wolf couldn't tell if he was suspicious or just anxious."Wolf?" Ire asked, an eyebrow raised.
"What?" Wolf looked back, "No!" She couldn't tell if she'd been staring or not, "He's..."
"Up to something?" Ire teased.
"No- I know- I know, you're probably right. He's probably not up to anything is he?"
"Just talk to him dude." Ire said, "Ask if he's ever killed someone."
"Shut up." Wolf laughed.
"It's Rowan." Tom pointed, just seeing him. She stopped, thinking his cup had alcohol. The house was full. A lot of older kids, holding bottles of alcohol and bobbing up and down while talking to each other.
Rowan stood awkwardly. It was a party, and while he knew everyone there, he didn't know them."Rowan?" Micheal said when he saw him.
The two went to the back garden to talk.
"Didn't think you'd be here?" Micheal asked.
"No, me neither..."
It was a little awkward between the two.
"So no Kate?" Rowan asked, seeing her as the only thing to talk about.
"Um, no. You see The Mash's here?"
"The Mash?"
"The- Ire, Tom, Wolf. They're The Mash, it's the pact, didn't they say?"
"I don't... I don't really know them- so."
Rowan felt himself less, he was below the sky, and it was all he could think about. The girls sat on a sofa for a while and contemplated if they expected more from a poster with exclusively the word 'party'.
They didn't know what to expect, but it was boring.
