Denial.

The action of declaring something to be untrue. When grieving, people often describe one of the steps as denial.

It was also the stage of grief all the Mikaelson siblings would say you were in. It had been a week since they told you about your husband's death and you hadn't even shed a tear.

"It's tomorrow Elijah and she won't even admit that he's gone. Hope needs all of us there."

"She's grieving Rebekah. We can't change the way she does things. Its one of the reasons why our brother was so intrigued by her."

Elijah and Rebekah's whispering was cut short when you walked into the room with a huge smile on your face.

"Hey guys!"

Rebekah rolled her eyes, slapping her hands on her thighs.

"That's it."

"Sister-"

Elijah tried to stop her by grabbing her arm but she ripped it out of his grasp.

"I've had enough of this. My brother, your husband, is dead. His funeral is tomorrow."

"You need to stop."

"No! You can't keep ignoring it Y/N! He's not coming back!"

You grabbed your head, shaking it furiously.

"Shut up! You don't know what your talking about!"

"Nik is dead! Last week our father staked him in the chest with a white oak stake."

You grabbed your chest, your breathing now becoming labored.

"I can't, I can't breathe."

Suddenly Elijah was by your side, holding onto your back.

"Ok, take deep breaths. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Focus on my voice."

Once your breathing returned to somewhat normal, you couldn't stop the sobs from raking through your body. Elijah pulled you close
to his chest, trying his best to comfort you.

"Let it out. Let it all out."

"He's just gone."

They both did everything they could to calm you down and eventually you stopped sobbing. Tears were still streaming down your face but they could finally make out what you were saying.

"I still love him."

"We know you do Y/N. We don't expect you be over this in a min-"

"No Rebekah. You don't get it. I don't want to love him anymore."

"What?"

You looked between the two of them, seeing both of their eyes well up.

"I don't want to hurt anymore." and as a sob escaped your lips, you finally said, "please just make me forget."

Elijah started shaking his head, doing his best to keep his tears away.

"I can't."

His voice cracked and you knew he couldn't do it just by looking at him. You turned your head towards Rebekah, who didn't look any better.

"Please help me forget. I can't let him go. I can't stop seeing him everywhere."

"How could you want to forget Nik? Get rid of every memory you've had of him. Wouldn't you want to hold onto the time you had with him rather than having nothing?"

"You don't understand. Everywhere I look I see him. Everytime I wake up, I forget he's not here. Every room I walk into I think of the memories we had in there."

You turn in a circle, gesturing to everything around you.

"I mean walking into here, I have so many memories. Good and bad. I see our first kiss, right over there by the fireplace. And then I look at this couch and I see when you told me that he wasn't coming home."

You take a shaky breath in, running your hands through your hair.

"I feel absolutely empty. Living in this house, walking around town, everything I do I feel empty. Like i'm missing something, like a piece of me is completely gone."

"I'll do it."

Your head snapped towards the door as you saw Marcel walking in.

"After the funeral tomorrow, I'll do it. But once its done, you can't be here anymore. It'll confuse Hope."

"Thank you."

With that, you left the study.

"Marcellus what do you think your doing. Hope still needs her."

"Just trust me on this one Elijah."

AN- ok so I've been pretty MIA lately but i'm back. I have an idea if y'all want a part 2?
