When I wake up, I realise it's very late. I look around and see that everyone else has left, except for Daphne, who's sitting on her bed looking at me.
"You look like a psychopath" I murmur. My head is bonding, I'm really tired and I'm sure I'm looking a mess. "Thank you" she says brightly. Then she darkens. "Shouldn't you be in hospital wing though."
I sit up, exhaling. "Shit! I forgot it!" "How could you forget it if you were there last night?" she grins. "Or maybe, you weren't" she adds, searching on my face the answer. I try not to blush or smile. "I went for a walk in the Owlery" I say, it's not a lie after all.
"Isn't it funny? I thought Draco was there too." I cough lowly. "And why would you know where Draco was?" I say, hoping to change topic. "I was talking with my sister and she told me. She knows everything about him, you know." Astoria, just like half the Slytherin girls, has a crush on Draco.
"Oh right. Shouldn't we be going to lessons now" I ask. "Yes. We're very late, we've already missed half our periods." She seems to have forgotten about Draco so I start to get dressed. I'm very hungry, since yesterday I skipped dinner and today breakfast too, but I don't have time for eating.
After ten minutes I'm ready to follow Daphne and we go to our fourth morning lesson, Potions. I'm afraid, to say the least, of what Snape will say about us, but we can't do anything about it now, it's too late in fact.
Daphne knocks on the door and Snape's voice murmurs, "Enter." Everyone looks at us, Harry and his friends and Draco included, eating an apple.
"Care to explain why you are late, Miss Greengrass?" "Olivia didn't feel good, because she fell you know" Daphne says. "So I waited for her. I didn't want her to be alone, you know" she adds. Snape raises an eyebrow. "Wouldn't we want Miss Black to be alone, would we" he says. Pansy snickers. "I'm sorry, Sir?" Hermione raises a hand, but Snape completely ignores her. "Sir, 'Mione wants to say something" Ron says loudly, looking at the Professor. "Miss Granger is completely able to speak on her own. You two cost five points each to Gryffindor. And you Mr Potter too, since you can't stop looking at me impertinently."
Draco snickers and so do Blaise and Pansy. "Malfoy, do you have something to say?" Harry says. Draco looks at him not even trying to hide his smile. "Five other points taken from Gryffindor given your attitude today, Mr Potter." My heart is beating furiously.
"Excuse me Sir? That's unfair. They didn't do anything to deserve it" I say. Daphne looks at me shocked. And so does Draco.
"I decide if they're behaving badly. I'm the Professor." "You're not being right Sir!" I repeat. Daphne looks like she wants to kill me.
"I've never heard a Slytherin with such a wide open mouth. Maybe you took it from your mother?" Snape asks, grimacing.
"You don't have the right to talk about her mom" Hermione says, standing near me. I give her an appreciation look but Snape is raging.
"Enough. Ten other points from Gryffindor. And five points taken from Slytherin. Maybe you should have been a Gryffindor, Miss Black." "It's a compliment" I murmur, while sitting at my desk, Daphne near me.
I glance over at Draco, angry. He doesn't look back, he's focused on his green apple. He didn't even try to defend me.
When the lessons end, I follow what I know is called 'The Golden Trio' in the dining hall to have lunch before the afternoon periods. "Black" Draco says, trying to stop me grabbing my wrist. Harry is bewildered, while Hermione and Ron are already ahead.
"Don't touch her" Harry mutters. Malfoy leaves my arm but doesn't stop looking at me. "Can we talk privately?" I hate to decide who to hurt now, but I agree and leave Harry waiting for me.
"What do you want, Malfoy" I say. "So it's Malfoy now uh" he murmurs. I know he's just trying to look confident.
"Why did you do all that drama in class before? You don't have to defend Potter and his friends." "First, they're my friends too. Second, why didn't you defend me?" I ask. He seems softened and gently grabs my chin to force me to look into his eyes. "People would find out about us if I did" he answers. "We're in the same House, unfortunately, so it would be normal for you to defend me." He shakes his head, slightly amused. "I'm honoured by you thinking this greatly of me, really. But the only one I've defended once was Blaise, and because had he been punished I would have been too."
"You never... defend your friends?" I ask, astonished. It's something completely natural I do. "What friends" he asks sourly. "Blaise, Pansy-" "They're not my friends. They don't even like me. They just want me because of my dad and family, which is your same by the way." I know he's just being honest but I understand how hurt he is. "Maybe if you were a bit more like Harry-" "I know, I know everyone prefers him to me" he says. He's suddenly distant from me.
"I didn't say-" "No but you thought it" he mutters. "You know what, yesterday was a fucking mistake. The worst mistake I've ever done is you." "Draco" I say, hurt by his words. "Leave. Me. Alone." He walks away.
I can't think of anything else but the hidden tears in Draco's eyes. I hurt him.
"Via, are you okay?" Harry asks, when I approach him. "Did he hurt you?" I shake my head, but I'm crying so he probably doesn't believe me. "Can I do something-" I ignore him and try to smile at him. "I'm fine." "You're always fine, that's your problems" he murmurs, trying to grab my wrist gently to stop me. "Don't. Please. I want to be left alone."
With these words, I walk away too, leaving Harry, the hall and some tears along the way.
