Always the same

When I enter the enormous building, I'm as usual amazed by how big and cold it looks. Large pilasters, marble floor and high stairs. It seems more like a museum rather than a home. I easily understand why Draco doesn't feel at home here. My home isn't big, but at least it isn't like this. I squeeze his hand and he gives me a quick look, forcing a little smile.

"Draco" I hear Lucius' voice. "So nice to see you." "How are you, Father?" Draco says, standing more still. Lucius appears from behind a wall and he walks up to us, his wizard mantle flying behind him. His long blonde hair is in a ponytail.

"I've been well. You haven't wrote us though, so you couldn't have known." Already the first scolding? "Good evening Lucius" I enter the conversation. "Hi Olivia. How are you? We've missed you here" he says. I'm disgusted both by his warm voice to me rather than his own son and because of his false face. I've never been able to understand whether he was lying or saying the truth. As a child, he scared me.

"I'm fine. Your son makes me feel good." "So he is able to be a nice person, isn't he?" Lucius seems surprised and Draco scoffs lowly. "Always the same" he mutters under his breath.

His father is about to respond when Narcissa comes out of nowhere. "Draco!" she exclaims, hugging him. I see that Draco's shoulders appear clearly and immediately more relaxed and I smile.

"Hi Cissy" I say. She lets go of his son and looks at me. "You know you can call me 'aunt', Olivia" she replies, touching my arm. I force myself to nod. "Your mom should be here any moment now." "Great" I murmur, looking down.

"Come Via, I'll show you around" he says. "Oh but Draco, don't you remember? She already has been here. We always found her in the smallest, most hidden places of this house, didn't we, Lucius?" Narcissa says, looking at her husband, who nods. "That's very true. You liked to play hide and seek." "One day, and I believe more than once honestly, you two met. Olivia, you were looking for a new room and found Draco's." "I can't imagine you two letting her run around. With all of your secrets" Draco looks at his parents.

"And what did we do?" I say, desperate not to let them fight. "I only remember you coming down to your mother crying and Draco running to you saying that 'it was your fault'."

Draco and I exchange looks. I can't remember what she's talking about and he doesn't seem to either. I shrug. "Let's just say we made peace now" I smile, and Cissy too, even though she seems very distant.

"Yes we did" Draco whispers in my ear. I blush, and Lucius laughs out. "Now, now. Are we ready for dinner, Narcissa?" he looks at his wife. Narcissa nods. "Yes, we are. Let's sit ourselves for dinner."

When we're in front of the long table, Draco moves my chair to let me sit, and I smile at him appreciatively. "I taught you well" Lucius notices, sitting. Narcissa raises her eyebrow. "Excuse you? You've never been such a gentleman" she scoffs, and Draco chuckles. He seems so comfortable with his mother.

"She doesn't remember. Old age does that sometimes" Lucius whispers to me, and I giggle. "You're so gorgeous when you laugh" Draco murmurs in my ear, putting a hand on my thigh. I blush again, I feel like a fool.

"So Olivia" Lucius says, as the House Elves start to come out and bring us many plates. "Tell us a bit about you, your mother never said anything related to... your other life." I realise he's referring to Dad's part of the family and I clench my teeth. Are they really interested or do they just want to despise me?

I don't care, I'm not ashamed of Dad.

"You mean my father?" I ask, innocently, while we start to eat. "Yes he does, obviously" Draco answers. "Tell me if you aren't comfortable responding to this question" Lucius adds quickly, noticing Draco's glance. I sigh.

"What do you want me to say?" I ask. "Just... how is it to live there." "Well... apart from the fact I'm never alone, since Harry lives there too-" "Oh that's right, Potter! How is he? Draco always tells us about him" I can't see whether he's being ironic or not.

I look up at Draco's eyes and he seems embarrassed. "He's okay. Hogwarts, we both find, is a very lovely place to live in, if you have the right people with you." "I remember Potter's parents, they sure had friends there. And you? Have you got the right people?" Lucius asks. Narcissa smiles at me.

"Yes" I answer. "Apart from Harry and his friends, Daphne and Astoria are very nice to me too." "The Greengrass sisters" Draco adds, and his father raises an eyebrow. "Oh." He's probably thinking about what Bella did to their born-to-be brother.

"And I've got Draco of course" I say. I squeeze Draco's hand under the table, hoping to relax him. "Of course" Lucius nods, gulping down a sip of water.

"Can I ask" I exhale "what does Bella say about me?" Draco turns to me immediately, surprised. I ignore his look.

"Oh, Olivia" Narcissa smiles. "She always told us about how smart and brave you were, didn't she, Lucius?" "Indeed. Obviously, she added some nasty comments about your so called father..." "I know" I say. "Bella and Dad aren't exactly best friends, it's not a secret." "It must be awful, spending the nights hearing your so-called father talking bad about your mother and viceversa."

"Why do you keep calling him like that" I murmur, looking down at my plate. "He is my dad." "Your real dad-" "My real dad is Sirius Black" I stare at them. "Bella's husband has got nothing to do with me." "Except from your Dna" Lucius smiles.

I want everything but to fight with Draco's parents, so I just nod.

"Ignore them" Draco whispers in my ear, and I nod again. "How are you finding Hogwarts?" Narcissa changes topic, and I smile at her, grateful.

"It's amazing" I beam. "It's like my home."
