"I-I can explain—" Diluc's eyes widened, a look of shock on his usually emotionless face.
Kaeya hummed, "I'm sure you can." He tilted his head at Diluc, "go on, I'm listening, Master Diluc."
Archons... I should've thought of this sooner. Diluc was angry at himself. What was I thinking, anyway... breaking into Kaeya's home like this...
"... it's Wednesday today..." Diluc murmured. Kaeya smiled, amused.
"And you... didn't come to the tavern...?" It came out as more of a question, and Diluc felt the urge to dig a hole, hide in it, and never come out.
"I didn't realize you were keeping tabs on me, Master Diluc," Kaeya smirked. "My, I'm quite flattered. So..." a teasing glance his way, and Diluc was glad because already Kaeya didn't seem as angry, gaining back his usual playful nature, "you were worried about me?"
"..." Diluc opted not to reply.
"Aww, Diluc, aren't you cute~" Kaeya smiled, "see, I'm all fine! You can stop worrying and go now, yeah?" He spread his hands, moving closer to Diluc.
There was obvious dismissal in his tone, like he didn't want Diluc here, but Diluc refused to leave. Because he had questions to ask, relationships to sort out, and perhaps it was due time to finally face those problems.
"Do you trust me?" Diluc asked carefully.
There was some surprise in the change of attitude, but almost no hesitation when Kaeya replied, "yes."
"Then tell me— truthfully— why is Dainsleif here? Is something happening about Khaenri'ah?"
"..." Kaeya's eyes were uncertain, and it was like he was holding a debate against himself. Finally— "No. It's nothing. Dainsleif merely wanted to see me. We were..." Kaeya had to choke out the last sentence, "f-friends... after all."
Diluc looked right into his eyes, disappointment evident on his face, "you say that, yet today I found a poem on that board that clearly is about Khaenri'ah." He was, obviously, referring to the wrinkled paper with holes in it.
"?!!" The shocked look on Kaeya was a rare display.
"Seven left from the original eight," Diluc quietly recited. "Tell me— is this not about Khaenri'ah?"
"Yes, but—" Kaeya reached out a hand, but Diluc shrugged it away.
Diluc ignored his reply, "the paper's all wrinkled... let me guess— you've been thinking about that poem a lot."
"Diluc—"
"And it's bothering you... something is happening about Khaenri'ah and you're..."
"Lying."
"About."
"It."
"Again."
Each word was a jab against Kaeya.
"I do trust you," Kaeya lowered his head, "but I also don't want you to get involved with Khaenri'ah."
"I wanted to keep you away from it— because Khaenri'ah is a cruel nation that has been abandoned by the gods. Because you are one blessed by the Gods themselves and you don't deserve to witness the horrors of the Abyss."
Kaeya turned his gaze to his side, avoiding Diluc, "I want to keep you away... from them."
"I'm not a baby, Kaeya. I don't need you protecting me all the time— I can manage on my own," Diluc frowned.
"And that's the same for me too, Diluc. I don't need you poking your head into my business," Kaeya retorted.
Diluc, "..."
Kaeya, "..."
"That's different," Diluc sounded like a baby.
"That's no different," now they were arguing like children. "Leave me alone."
Diluc heaved a sigh, "I don't want to play games, Kaeya. Don't you understand? I'm sorry for all those years— I've been sorry for a long time— you can trust me with the truth because I will help you."
Diluc took a deep breathe, and—
"I'm sorry. I wish I could change what happened in the past, to change your blood, your childhood, to change that you're Khaenri'ahn. But what I can do is change what happens tonight and in the future."
"We don't have to be like how we are now. We can change and maybe be together again— to be friends and not enemies. But I need you to make that change with me. Today."
"Us."
"Together."
—and said the words he'd never dared to say.
Diluc held out a hand for Kaeya, face burning but head held high.

[the sole purpose of this line is to change the POV to Kaeya :")]Kaeya turned to Diluc, shocked.
Together.
Kaeya had lived and survived alone. All this time he flirts and taunts and teases with the people around him, but he keeps everyone at arms length. He had always been fighting alone, going down a dark, lone path.
Together.
Now that was a foreign word.
But maybe Kaeya could ask for more. Maybe he didn't have to keep even his most loved brother away.
So maybe Kaeya was a little greedy.
He'd thought that this was enough and accepted his fate. Because he was Khaenri'ahn and unfit for Diluc. Yet here he was— the red-haired boy, offering to him this dream of...
He was greedy.
He was greedy, so maybe he would dream again.
Of waltzing with him one day...
Maybe he really could.
So despite how Kaeya knew that he had not much time left, that he would come to break Diluc's heart, that this reunion would be for naught...
He took Diluc's hand. "Change. Together." And leaned down to the slightly shorter red-head with a small chuckle.
"Maybe I could do that."
There was a small smile on Kaeya's face. A happy one, as he leaned in and forgot all about his future, forgot all about Khaenri'ah and Dainsleif and anything at all...
And thought only of Diluc, red-faced but smiling a little below him, head tilted up in rare anticipation...
And kissed Diluc on the lips.

So yeah. Dumbass me finally decided to write the kiss scene.
And it wasn't even what I'd originally planned but then I change a lot of my plans sooooo
