House: Ravenclaw
I was a bit of a recluse, not particularly keen on talking and hated having attention on me in any form, so in class I never answered questions and instead kept my head down. The only people I'd really speak to were my dorm room mates, some of them because I had to but one of the girls, Jo, I actually got on with quite well. She appreciated the fact that I liked being on my own but she was always there in case I ever needed to talk to someone.
She did however like to convince me to leave the dorm room, something I rarely used to do at weekend's before we became close. She didn't necessarily force me out to come along with her to Hogsmeade, but she'd try and encourage me to at least go for a walk around the grounds. Recently I had started to take her advice but always later in the day when fewer people would be around. This gave me all the peace I needed as I walked, heading to the grounds. I walked past Hagrid's Hut but didn't go as far as the Forbidden Forest, that place spooking me a little. Something up ahead however caught my attention, and I was surprised when I saw a black dog trotting along the path.
When it saw me it froze in its tracks, apparently unsure what to do. I too was unsure, knowing that only cats, toads and owls were allowed as pets here at Hogwarts, meaning no one should have a dog. Unless of course it lived in the forest, but as far as I was aware that place was only filled with magical creatures, so it was unlikely that a dog had come from within it.
Slowly I stepped towards the dog, it tilting its head with apparent curiosity. I was surprised when it suddenly came up to me so casually, reaching out for my hand with its nose in an effort to be petted. I chuckled to myself and did as the dog wanted, scratching it behind its ears also. I noticed that the dog was a he, and he started wagging his tail back and forth, apparently loving the attention. "Aren't you the most precious thing in the world," I said, and the dog barked happily. It was always so much easier talking to animals than it was talking to people, so I found it quite comforting, sitting here with this dog. "So where'd you come from? You can't belong to anyone at Hogwarts surely... are you Hagrids? Or from the Forbidden Forest?"
The dog simply barked and wagged its tail as I scratched him under his chin. Immediately I had fallen in love with him, him getting very excited and jumping up and down. "Well why don't we go on a walk together. I don't usually like company, but when it's a sweet animal like you I think I can make an exception," I smiled at the black dog, its tail wagging happily as the two of us strolled side by side in the nice evening air.
From that point onwards I often bumped into the black dog whilst out on my evening walks. I couldn't help but think it was perhaps waiting for me, but I was happy whenever it came along to keep me company. I was able to open up to him, treating him like a therapy dog. I spoke to him about my troubles, my nerves, my inability to actually be sociable and one thing that kept me quite curious was the fact it looked as though the dog was listening intently. He seemed intrigued by what I was saying, and would often come and cuddle against me whenever he noticed that I was feeling a little down.
"Goodness, I've known you for weeks now and I've still not given you a name! Hmm... how about Snuffles? Snuffles is quite cute," I pondered and the dog barked happily, seeming to like the name. I chuckled and stroked his head, it nuzzling against my palm. "Snuffles it is," I smiled, having not felt this happy or relaxed in a long time, and it was all thanks to this mysterious dog.
- Timeskip - - Sirius' POV -
James and I had just finished setting up the sack of flobberworm mucus, and were now tying it to the stone beams on the ceiling of the corridor, hovering on our broomsticks. "It's almost time," Peter announced from his post as lookout. He was stationed down one end of the corridor waiting for the Gang of Slytherins to come along, them usually heading to the Great Hall at this time.
