Last night was a particularly rough full moon for my boyfriend of five years. He hadn't had a calm full moon since the death of our close friends and the conviction of Sirius, but somehow last night it was worse than previous months. I tried to comfort him as much as possible but it was sometimes difficult as he'd often shrug me off or just blank me completely until he was feeling better.

Today was a special day though, so I hoped that the celebration I had planned for him later today would make him feel better. It was valentines day, but not only that it was our five year anniversary. I knew that after each full moon Remus liked to go on an afternoon walk if he was feeling physical able to, so during this time I would put my plan into motion to surprise him when he came back.

I heard footsteps come down the creaky staircase and I looked to see a dishevelled Remus standing there, looking somewhat broken. "Why didn't you wake me?" He asked simply.

"It looked as though you could do with the sleep," I said with a comforting smile. He snorted and collapsed into a chair at the dining table, resting his forehead on his palms. I took him his fry-up, knowing he needed the energy boost. "Here, eat up," I said calmly, placing the plate in front of him. "And happy anniversary!"

"Hm," he mumbled, apparently uninterested. I faltered a little, but I knew he just needed time to calm down. I sat beside him, looking at him and making sure he didn't have any injuries which thankfully seemed to be the case. "What?"

"I'm just checking you're okay," I said, cupping his cheek but he pulled away.

"I'm fine," he growled.

"O-of course... let me know if you want anything else," I nodded, heading back to the kitchen counter. I let out a small sigh, wishing that a full moon didn't have to fall on the eve of our anniversary/valentines day. Throughout the day he didn't seem that eager to talk, let alone cuddle and kiss or celebrate the two special occasions that fell on this date. I felt as though I needed to tiptoe around him, but that seemed to irritate him even more. Despite having been with him for five years and many full moons, it was impossible to know how he'd react to each of them therefore impossible to prepare how I could help him recover.

It had reached 15:00 by the time Remus told me he was going for a walk. That was one of the few consistencies after a full moon, however this time he was incredibly abrupt and it seemed as though he wanted me to try and stop him just so an argument would be made.

"Okay, be safe," I said, approaching him and pressing my hand against his chest, wanting a hug but he just scoffed and walked out the door. I felt dejected to say the least, especially as I had imagined this day to be incredibly romantic and filled with the love we had for one another.

In one last attempt to woo him, I decided to go through with my plan. I wasn't sure how long he'd be so I set up the bedroom as quickly as possible, scattering the rose petals on the white sheets and placing a few bouquets in vases around the room. I dotted the candles around also, some on the dresser, vanity and bedside table but I didn't light them yet as I wasn't sure how long he'd be - I didn't want them to burn out before he arrived home.

I slipped into some nice underwear having already showered and shaved the night before, then picking out a nice dress from the wardrobe that flattered my body. Remus always liked cute dresses as opposed to sexy, and as I applied the last of my makeup I heard the door open. Immediately I lit the candles, happy with my work before heading to my boyfriend who looked just as irritated as he did before he left.
