- James' POV -

The four of us were sat at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, eating breakfast before the school day started. The owls began to fly in through their openings in the roof, dropping off various packages, letters and copies of the Daily Prophet. A black letter was dropped in front of Sirius and he scoffed. "A letter from dear old mum. Incendio," he muttered, pointing his wand at the parchment and turning it to ash.

"You didn't even read it!" Peter exclaimed and Sirius scoffed.

"Do you really think I give a damn as to what that bitch has to say?" He scoffed. I was distracted however when an mums snowy owl landed directly beside me.

"Weekly letter from mum," I smiled, pulling it from the owls leg. I fed him a bit of sausage before he hooted happily and flew out the roof. I opened up the letter seeing my mums fancy hand writing.

James,

I hope the beginning of your seventh year is going well! I've yet to receive a letter from your Professors so I assume you're not getting yourself into too much trouble. It's definitely been quiet here without you, your father and I already miss you.

We do have news though, the manor next door that stood empty for a while has now been bought by a family called (l/n)! They're muggles of course, we met them a few days ago just after you left. They have a daughter as well, (y/n), who's about your age. She seems quite shy and timid but she's incredibly kind. I'm sure she'd love to meet you when you're back at Christmas.

Well anyway, make sure to study hard. This is your last year, work hard and really make the most of it!

Lots of love,

Mum and Dad x

I smiled at their letter, knowing that they missed me so much when I was gone and despite not admitting it to anyone, I missed them immensely. "Mum says we have a new next door neighbour, Padfoot," I said, as he had started living with us after he ran away from home.

"Who is it?" He asked eagerly.

"A family called (l/n). They've got a daughter, (y/n)," I said, wondering what she looked like.

"A daughter, eh?" Sirius said. "How old?"

"Our age," I said and he smirked devilishly.

"Interesting..."

"We probably ought to head to class, McGonagall won't like it if we're late again," Peter piped up and we all nodded in agreement.

"I wonder what she looks like?" I said, re-reading mums letter.

"Well I guess we'll find out at Christmas," Sirius said and I nodded.

- Timeskip -

It was the Christmas holidays, and Sirius and I were back home. It was good to be back, not only because I got to see mum and dad again but because I couldn't help but wonder about (y/n). Mum had told me a little about her, about how kind she was and how she often asked if they needed help with housework, naive to the fact they could do it all by magic. She was bright, apparently happy all the time and was always out in their garden despite it being winter.

Mum had begun to tease me in her past couple of letters, asking me why I was so curious about (y/n), but I couldn't help it. I was getting no where with Evans and it had been six years - I wondered whether it was time to move on and every time mum mentioned (y/n) in her letters I couldn't help but smile. Thankfully it was only Remus out of the three who had noticed, although the other two had picked up on the fact I didn't flirt with Evans as much.
