Logan's (POV)
My mind was still reeling after watching Mia on the battlefield, her eyes glowed and she lifted off the ground but that was nothing compared to the power you could feel coming off of her in waves. When she snapped her fingers and the wolves that were surrounding me just turned to dust I got scared for a minute, I just couldn't believe that it was her.
Alpha Nick walked up to me as we stood looking at the destruction, he threw me a pair of pants I shove them on as he looked at the damage we had all caused.
'That's some mate you have.' He said with a slight chuckle. I glanced at him and noticed the healing wounds on his side and face, blood was caked on his chest and in his hair.
'Yeah, I know.' I said with pride in my voice.
'Did you see that wall she created? Damn that was awesome.' Alpha Zack commented as he joined us.
I looked over to the burned ground and smiled thinking of my mate, no one could ask for one better. We began piling bodies of the rogues in the middle of the clearing and set them the flame. We lost about 25 of ours, 10 from Alpha Nick, 7 from Alpha Zack and 8 of our own. The Alphas were preparing to take theirs home and give them a proper burial and I helped my fighters take ours home too.
The next couple of weeks were going to hold several funerals and this was the worst part of my job, not being strong enough to protect every member of my pack.
I finished helping the others get patched up and safely on their way before I made my way to our room. I could smell her and I felt myself smile, I could imagine myself coming home to her. I made it up the stairs and moved to open the door when I stopped. I couldn't hear her on the other side, no breathing, no heart beat, nothing.
Panic set in and I rushed through the door, everything was in place except for a single shoe in the middle of the floor. She had been here but her scent was fading and fading fast.
'Sam, Sierra meet me down stairs now!' I demanded, I didn't care that my voice had shaken, I didn't care if they could tell I was panicking, she was gone and I just wanted her back.
Running down the stairs I met them in the kitchen, 'She'a gone.' I yelled as I threw my fist into the wall, my wolf was pacing inside of me and I needed to lash out at something. 'They fucking took her.'
'God dammit all to fucking hell,' Sierra muttered before taking off for the stairs.
'Who the hell could it have been? I followed them myself, 5 fucking miles out of our territory.' Sam yelled running his hands through his hair.
Realization dawned on me, 'Zoey,' I whispered more to myself than to Sam.
'Are you fucking kidding me?' He demanded as he whirled around to face me. We had known Zoey our whole lives, she grew up with us, we thought we knew her inside and out, for Christ sake her parents lived down the road from us and always came to family dinners.
'Mia knew something was off about her lately, we haven't been spending much time around her and Mia came into the kitchen and got this eery feeling about her.' I said as I sat down in the chair, I should have expected something like this and to be honest I did, I just didn't think it would be this soon.
They were smart about it, catching her when my back was turned. Tears filled my eyes, I couldn't lose her, I didn't have enough time to love her, to know her.
I jerked to my feet as Sierra came skidding into the room with her parents hot on her heels.
'How the fuck did this happen?' Michael demanded as he grabbed me by my throat trying to slam me up against the wall.
I jerked his hand away from my throat and punched him in the face slamming him into the fridge.
'Stop it, god dammit, stop it right fucking now.' Sierra screamed putting herself between us as Michael got up to lunge at me.
'We can't afford to lose any more time, Logan was helping his pack and requested that Mia go upstairs and sleep. Sam chased them 5 miles away from here before they split up, she was gone before then.' She growled at her father who was trying to inch his way around her.
'Move and I won't hesitate to beat your ass,' she whispered threateningly to him. He stopped mid step and looked at her. 'Mia doesn't need this right now and we are wasting precious time. Logan did what any mate would do, he thought of his mate first and stayed to help 'his' pack. You of all people can't judge him for that.'
Michael looked shocked and then saddened but nodded. I could understand where he was coming from, hell I was beating myself up but it was out of my hands. Groaning I turned around and slammed both hands down on the kitchen table, it broke into pieces, I should have been here, I should never have left her alone.
'Enough,' Sierra growled at me. 'We need to get moving.'
'Fine lets go.' I said running out the back door
