it was sunday. it was 5:00 on sunday. it was 5:00 on sunday, and seungmin was making his way to the graveyard.

every sunday when he got off work, seungmin would go to the cemetery and visit his sisters grave. she had been hit by a drunk driver 3 years ago, when she was only 9.

occasionally, seungmin would take a detour. there was a small house with a garden that he liked to admire. he really liked plants, and whoever tended to the flower beds clearly knew how to care for them.

when his sister was alive, she would ask seungmin about his flowers. the pictures he hung up, the ones he kept in pots around his room, and the ones that he would bring home for her on special occasions. although she could never pronounce their name, her favorite flowers were hyacinths.

so on the late spring evening that seungmin strolled past the house, he was delighted to see a patch of beautiful purple hyacinths blooming. at the same time, he felt a pull at his heartstrings.

for a few minutes, he debated on whether or not he should go back to town to buy his sister some flowers. he didn't want to walk all that way back, so seungmin thought that it would be alright if he plucked one. he had taken a few flowers before, such as stray poppies or daisies with broken stems.

little did he know, there was someone watching him from the window of the house. as seungmin bent down and plucked the hyacinth, he took in the smell of the sweet pollen. it was a wonderful scent, but it would always be sullied by the memory of his late sister.

when seungmin started down the path once again, he heard a door open behind him. he didn't think much of it, so continued to walk. then, he heard a voice.

"hey, hey! flower boy!"

seungmin stopped. his heart sped up; was he in trouble? slowly, he turned around. standing a few meters away in front of the garden was a boy around his own age. the boy walked up to seungmin, who was still wide eyed.

"i'm sorry. i shouldn't have taken the flower without asking i'm really sorry." seungmin started to ramble.

unexpectedly, the boy laughed. "it's okay. i'm not mad. but, i need to see if the girl you're giving it to is pretty enough to warrant flower theft."

the boy, slightly taller than seungmin, slung his arm around his shoulders and turned them around, pushing them forward. he introduced himself as jeongin.

relieved that he wasn't in trouble, it took seungmin a few minutes to realize what jeongin had said. he stopped in his tracks.

"wait. girl i'm bringing this to?"

jeongin looked at him. "yeah. or boy. or anyone else. i don't really care. just wanna see who my flower is for." he kept walking

seungmin didn't know how tell him that they weren't on their way to meet a date. they were on their way to the cemetery.

unable to bring himself to tell the boy, seungmin found himself watching jeongin as he talked. what fertilizer he used, how often he watered his plants, his favorite flowers, all this was lost to seungmin as he simply stared, transfixed on the younger.

instinctively, seungmin turned the corner and through the gates of the cemetery when they came to it, neither boy comprehending as each was lost in their own world. it wasn't till jeongin asked seungmin a question that they both snapped out of their trances.

"sorry, what?" seungmin asked.

"i asked what your favorite flower was." jeongin giggled.

seungmin blushed and thought about it. before he could answer, his thoughts were interrupted.

"hey... did we take a wrong turn?"

seungmin looked up, seeing that jeongin had realized that they were in the cemetery. the color drained from his cheeks.

"hyung? what's wrong?" jeongin looked at seungmin, worried.

"well... i didn't want to tell you at first..." seungmin couldn't bear to look jeongin in the eye "but i'm not bringing the hyacinth to a date. i'm bringing them to my sister."

silently, jeongin took both of seungmins hands in his. seungmin brought his eyes up to meet the younger's, which were already aimed at him.

"your sister is here?" jeongin asked quietly.

seungmin nodded. jeongin looked down, feeling bad for his hyung. soon, he felt his arm being lightly pulled along. seungmin had started walking again.

they made their way further into the cemetery. eventually, they walked onto the grass and past a large tree to a small stone laid neatly in the dirt.

slowly, seungmin knelt down and brushed some stray leaves off of the small grave. jeongin watched as the older gently laid the flower at the top of the grave above his sisters name and placed his hand on it as if trying to caress her.

seungmin smiled softly and stood up, eyes glistening with tears that he willed not to fall. then, he felt warmth envelop him. jeongin had pulled him into a hug, which he returned, unable to keep his sadness in any longer.

jeongin stood silently stroking seungmins hair while he wept. although they had just met, jeongin was saddened seeing him like this. the boy always looked so happy when passing the garden that jeongin never would have guessed that each time, he ended up here.

after seungmin had once more quieted and released his arms from around jeongins waist, jeongin too knelt down in front of the grave. quietly, he began to speak.

"i hope you enjoy your hyacinth. i grew it myself. your brother misses you very much, but don't worry, he's grown into a very handsome young man." behind him, seungmin blushed. "i'll make sure he visits you often." hesitant, jeongin finished "and i'll protect him for you."

jeongin placed his hand and the grave and bowed his head before standing up and turning back to seungmin. the olders cheeks were still dusted with pink when he met jeongins eyes.

"if you want, we can hang out somewhere that isn't the cemetery sometime." jeongin smiled.

"i'd like that." seungmin nodded his head happily.

"great. how about coffee?"

"sounds great."

"and if you want another flower, all you have to do is ask."
