it was a another day. then another night and another day and another night and seungmin was sick of it. he was fucking sick of it.

another day of yelling, of hitting, of crying and hoping and begging for everything to stop. another day of unanswered prayers as reality sank in that it would not get better.

so, he left.

20 years old and putting himself through college, homeless without his parents,
seungmin left.

there was a rumor in his town, see. a rumor of a witch in the woods. the witch would grant your every wish, provided you find their house. so seungmin left in a desperate final attempt to salvage his own miserable life.

at the edge of the woods he stopped. he took a deep breath smelling pine and dried leaves before taking another step forward. and for a long time, he walked.

he'd never been in the woods. seungmin preferred the beach, or the rooftops or a café. anywhere that wasn't home, really. he still enjoyed the snapping of twigs underfoot, bird calls surrounding him and wind whistling through tight-knit branches as he walked on.

eventually, the sun began to set. seungmin was tired, his legs ached and the wind became cooler and cooler by the minute. then, a particularly strong gust of wind rushed through the trees. he shielded his eyes as a flash of light streaked in front of him. he turned to follow it, running faster as his limbs protested.

silhouetted by the sunset was a deep brown house in a clearing surrounded by a metal fence. pine trees shot up around the yard patched with bushes of suspicious berries.

seungmin approached the door and knocked, hands already shaking. within a minute, a man opened the door.

"hello?"

"hi. i'm seungmin, i'm here to ask-"

"you here for the witch?"

"um, yes. i am."

"wrong place. he's over there."

surprised and somewhat confused, seungmin looked over to where the man was pointing. he was met with a boy in a golden waistcoat surrounded by a brilliant white light that made him look like he was glowing. he was waving enthusiastically at seungmin. without warning the man shut the door in his face, forcing him to walk over to the other house.

how the hell did i not notice this place?

"hi, so great to have you! my name's felix! what's yours?" the boy said quickly, pulling seungmin towards the door.

"seungmin."

"well seungmin you're very lucky to have found us! plenty of people look but they rarely ever find us. they give up or just aren't worthy."

"worthy?"

"oh of course. you can't find a witch to grant you a wish if you don't need it! lots of folks want fame or money and that's why they can't find us! we're only available to those who truly need help or aren't out for selfish purposes."

seungmin nodded along as felix rambled, walking him through the cottage they'd entered. although cute and quaint on the outside, seungmin noticed that it was quite roomy on the inside. and that there were a lot of cats on the furniture.

"that leads me to my next question. why are you here?"

seungmin stopped. he looked at felix, who was still walking around, tidying up his rooms and petting the cats.
