jeongin was sitting in his first hour class trying desperately not to fall asleep before the bell rang. he'd gotten up early to surprise his mom with breakfast in bed on her birthday.

unfortunately, his class ended with someone hitting him on the head as the bell hadn't even been able to wake him up as class ended. he shook his head and looked at the person who'd woken him up, surprised to see chan, whom he'd never spoken to.

the all-black clad elder chuckled at the sleepy boy and walked out of the classroom, jeongin quickly following and hoping the teacher hadn't noticed him dozing.

the next day, jeongin was working up the courage to thank chan for waking him up. he was anxiously running over what to say and how to say it when he found his eyes wandering over to him.

jeongin was a junior and chan a senior. they were both very different as jeongin preferred colorful sweaters and converse compared to chan's dark wardrobe and combat boots. furthermore, jeongin was soft-spoken but smart and chan didn't really seem to care about academics. at least from the one class jeongin shared with him.

the elder was staring disinterested at the board in front, half-listening to the lesson. he smiled when the bell finally rang. quickly, jeongin sprang up from his seat and dashed out the door, deciding to wait for chan in the hall.

when he saw the senior walk out of the classroom, jeongin made his way over to him.

"hey, chan hyung?"

"oh, hey."

"i just wanted to thank you for waking me up yesterday. it would have been much more embarrassing if the teacher had to do it."

"i agree." he chuckled. "it's no problem. you're getting enough sleep though, right?"

"yeah! i just woke up early yesterday to make my mom breakfast for her birthday." the younger smiled remembering how happy she was.

"that's sweet of you. let's head to class so we're not late." chan smiled.

"right! thanks."

the two parted ways, inhabiting one another's minds. chan smiled to himself remembering the wrinkles that appeared around jeongins eyes as he smiled. jeongin reacted similarly after noticing chan's dimples.

after that encounter, the two grew closer as they began talking in class, then in the halls. jeongin had to admit that chan had intimidated him at first. his stoic demeanor made his seem almost mean.

a pair like them was certainly an 'opposites attract' moment. all the fear jeongin felt disappeared when he looked over and saw chan doodling in his notebook.

the older had drawn a bunch of little dinosaurs, flowers and other miscellaneous things all around the borders of his notes.

wow, he's such a dork.

jeongin chuckled and turned back to his own notes, not noticing chan turning to him, admiring his laugh.

after class, chan ended up waiting for jeongin.

"hey jeonginnie." he said, throwing an arm around him.

"hey chan hyung."

"i was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime? i know it's sudden so if you don't want to that's fine too."

"i'd love to. do you like cafés?"

"i mean, they're not my usual scene."

"what? you? never would've guessed." jeongin said feigning surprise.

"well do you like skate parks?"

"...point taken."

the two laughed as they continued walking.

"wait-my class is on the other side of the school!" jeongin suddenly remembered.

"better run then."

he sent chan a glare as he began jogging away, hoping he would be on time.

once he'd apologized to his teacher and taken his seat, jeongin pulled out his phone and saw a notification from instagram.
