"They were murdered." Scott said, as he explained to Argent what had happened to Lori and Brett the night before. "Killed by the new hunter in Beacon Hills. You know, when he took out the hellhound, we thought it was just luck. That we were dealing with an amateur. But now we know that whomever this new hunter is, he has a teacher."

"Gerard." Argent said, as the kids all turned to look at him. "Which means this is my fault. I'm the one who let him go."

"You couldn't have done anything." Lydia tried to reassure, as Malia shrugged.

"He could've killed him." She offered, as everyone turned to look at her. "Just saying..."

"We're not executioners." Lydia said.

"You are when it comes to war." Malia argued.

"That's why we're gonna make peace." Scott said, as Diana frowned.

"With Gerard?" She scoffed.

"We know what's coming." The alpha said. "We all keep using the same word."

"War." Argent said.

"So what stops a war from happening?" Malia asked.

"A peace summit." Diana offered.

"Right." Scott nodded. "We meet face-to-face with Gerard, find out what he wants, and then we stop all this before it gets any worse."

"Last time Gerard was at a peace meeting was with Deucalion." Lydia pointed out. "He blinded him and then killed everybody else, including his own men!"

"I'll go." Argent offered, as the kids all turned to stare at him. "We know he's not going to kill me."

"You sure about that?" Malia raised an eyebrow.

"Not really." Argent admitted.

"All we need is to find out what he wants." Scott said. "Then we can bargain."

"Even if he does agree, his terms might be difficult to meet." Argent said, turning to look directly at Scott.

"Well, that's why it's a negotiation." The alpha said. "I don't expect to get anything without giving something up."

"Then you're gonna have to figure out just how much you're willing to give, and how far you're willing to go to stop a war." Argent said, as Scott sighed, turning to look at the girls as they all shrugged.

After all, they weren't sure what they were willing to give up, considering they didn't even know what the starting bet was anyway.

Argent had tried to talk to his father about a meeting, but that hadn't really worked out the way they had expected it to. Unsurprisingly. But, of course, as usual, the McCall pack had a few tricks up their sleeves so, after Liam figured out another one of Gerard's new hunters was Monroe, the kids devised a new plan.

"The school counselor is one of the new hunters?" Diana asked, scrunching up her nose in mild disgust. "God, I really hope I can take her job someday."

"Yeah, well, before that, we need to try and convince her to meet with us since Gerard doesn't want to." Scott said, his eyes falling over Diana for a moment as the girl sighed, already knowing what was gonna come out of his mouth next. "And... We need to try and convince your dad too. If they were the first ones Gerard recruited, then they are probably well-ranked in the army he's trying to build. And if they're well ranked..."

"We could try to negotiate with them instead." Diana finished the alpha's sentence, causing him to nod but still keeping a careful eye on her.

"Lydia is gonna try and talk to Monroe." Scott said, glancing over at the banshee, who nodded at him. "Will you try and talk to your dad? I can... I come with, if you want."
