The room was even more beautiful on the inside than I thought. The creamy blue sheets on the king-sized bed (right against the center of the wall directly opposite of the door) were neatly tucked into the frame, with white and dusty pink pillows decorating the bedding. A nightstand was on either side of the bed, with a simple lamp and a blue alarm clock on top. Further on the bed was a basket of towels, soap, hair, and skin products, and a rosewater scented candle.

The walls were a creamy white, and there were fake plants hanging in the corner of the ceiling. A few pictures of plants and vinyl records were hung in frames here and there, complimenting and matching the overall theme of the motel.

Lightning left the bags and suitcase by the door and dropped down head-first into the bed after pushing away the basket. He had dark circles under his eyes, and I could see the small scar on the bridge of his nose from earlier this week.

He mumbled as he spoke. "Can I please sleep now?" After that, he yawned stiffly.

I walked over and took the decorative pillows off of the bed. "Unmake the bed and then you can sleep," I said, and he immediately started to help. We took the top cover off, and Lightning slipped inside the actual covers, pushing himself into the white pillows.

"Will you come lay with me?"

I grinned. "No, and I'm sorry. I have to get ready for the party tonight, and still have to call Sally about something."

He frowned sadly and mumbled an 'okay' before turning over and cuddling with the cover. Just seconds later I could hear his breathing stabilize and his tense position soften.

I smiled at the idiot and went through a door on the other side of the room. Said room was a kitchenette. A beautiful sea-like marble design covered the countertop, and small decorative stars were strung across the wall behind it. The stove and fridge were both white, while the items lying around were black and dark green.

I'm surprised this motel isn't busier than the few people I saw around. It was honestly so nice and clean everywhere. The designs were calming and the atmosphere was welcoming.

My guess about how this place was new was probably correct.

I leaned against the counter and pulled my phone out. I dialed my sister's number and put the phone to my ear.

It rang three times before she answered.

And, I have no idea why, but she seemed really out of breath.

She greeted me hesitantly on the other line. "H-hey."

My instincts kicked in. "Hey, hey! Are you okay Sally?! Are you safe, what are you doing!?" I jumped from the edge of the counter and started texting Uncle Hudson to make sure everything was okay in case Sally couldn't talk.

"No, no, Olivia! I'm fine, I promise." I momentarily stopped texting our uncle. "I was just rushing to the place I was supposed to be at." She grunted a little, but I heard a quiet laugh, someone else's laugh, from the other line.

And why was it so eerily familiar?

I exited my messaging app and put the phone to my ear again. "I'm glad to hear that. Is someone with you out right now? I thought I heard someone else." I asked, trying to hide skepticism in my voice. But she must have caught on anyway.

"Uh- nope! I'm just walking by an outdoor café!" I heard another stifled laugh and some rustling in the background.

Then I heard a feminine moan.

And I could tell it was my sister.

"Um...hello?" I asked cautiously, pulling the phone away again, but only by a little. "Are you sure everything's okay?"
