Chapter 37

Raps came through the door at exactly 1:30PM.

I stood from the small loveseat that was next to the open window, putting my computer on the small coffee table in front, closing the messaging app. I had been talking with a potential sponsor up in Wyoming, but I wasn't exactly that interested. He seemed very...eager...

Walking quietly to the door (Lightning was still asleep, and it worried me a little bit), I guessed that it was Sally, and I was glad to see her on the other side of the door. She wore a ruffled shirt which was tucked into her black ripped jeans. She had wedges on, and her hair was curled slightly, her blue streaks standing out.

Sally jumped once and started gushing.

"Hey, sis! It's been so lo-"

I waved my arms to signal her to be quiet, to which her voice started deteriorating into silence. I quickly pointed to the bed behind me, where Lightning was still, thankfully, soundly sleeping. She widened her eyes and silently started apologizing.

I motioned her into the kitchenette, and we sat at a beige dinner table set with a white cloth. It was set with white and pink lilies and a beautifully scented candle.

Sally set her purse down on another chair. Suddenly I was brought back to this morning.

Gah, I didn't like that. I did not like remembering that phone call.

Maybe if I dumped a bucket of ice water it'll give me amnesia...

I stood up again and smiled. "Do you want something to drink? Coffee, water, juice?" I walked over to the small fridge and checked what was on the inside.

Freshly stocked fruits and veggies, juices, yogurts, and salads.

Good quality motel, honestly.

"Hm...orange juice if there is any?"

I nodded from my place and took the carton of orange juice from the rack on the fridge door. I searched through the cupboards for a glass while Sally talked about everything going on in Radiator Springs.

I knew every little thing she was going to say.

Yet she left out one extremely important detail.

She never, not once, mentioned the appearance of Zayden. Whether she mentioned him as a 'guest' or directly stated him as Lightning's brother.

Not a single word about him.

Nor did she bring up anything about our call this morning, or whatever business she had going on. Which made me shiver.

All of a sudden I realized Sally has stopped talking. I thought for a second she was done with her story, so I was starting to respond to her when strong arms wrapped around my waist, and a face buried themselves in my shoulder, mumbling something about being hungry. I could smell the faintest hint of mint.

From my peripheral vision, I could see messy, sandy blonde hair and once I looked down at the hands, I saw three string bracelets around the person's wrist.

And from what I could feel, the person did not have a shirt on.

Oh, Lightning what have you done?

I wanted to tease him about everything right now, but with Sally only a few feet behind us, I pushed it until later.

"You didn't have the decency to put a shirt on?" I whispered.

Still sounded tease-like. Good job Olivia.

He spoke in a normal tone, still not fully awake. "You've seen me without a shirt on. Nothing new." Lightning's hands moved down and under my shirt, still wrapped around my waist, but this time actively on my bare skin.
