I walked through the rain as I followed Juan and his Kingdra through Sootopolis City. It was pouring down hard and I felt like I was soaked to the bone. It wasn't much longer though until we walked down some stairs carved into the rock that lead to a huge tree. There weren't very many leaves on it, and the ones that either weren't on the ground or blowing away in the wind, stayed on the branches all shriveled and dead. It seemed like the grass and the tree itself was dead too.
"It wasn't too long ago when the tree was alive but it just seemed to die as soon as Team Magma and Team Aqua started appearing," Juan said as he gazed at the tree with a distant expression.
"How long did you know about them?" I asked.
"They didn't start wreaking havoc on the region until very recently but they've been around for at least more than three years. We didn't worry about them at first but when we heard about Team Aqua stealing from Steven's father and Team Magma causing trouble at Rusturf Tunnel then we knew we had to worry. I was surprised when I found out that it had been you who had tried to stop them."
"But I didn't."
"Yes, that is true but I don't think you'll need to worry about them again because the reason why I will be training you has to do with stopping Kyogre and Groudon."
"What?! Are you serious?! Me?!"
"I know it comes as a shock to you but I can see that Steven sees your potential as a trainer. That's why he asked me to train you, so you can reach that potential. Now come with me."
He started walking towards a bridge that lead across the water to two large doors that looked to be embedded into the white rock. Two girls stood in front of the doors and when they saw Juan and his Kingdra approach them they both opened the doors and allowed us to pass.
"Sapphire, welcome to the Cave of Origin."
I could feel Sparkzette, who was on my shoulder, tense up a little, so I scratched her behind the ears and she relaxed a little. As we walked deeper into the cave some stones on the wall started appearing. Not only that but they were glowing as well. They were glowing in the colors of red and blue and they were really pretty to look at.
"Not many are allowed to come into the Cave of Origin and those who are are the very few who are chosen and are given a chance to see these wonderful stones."
"Has Steven been in here?"
"No, he hasn't. He wishes to but we can't let him and that's all. There is no reason other than he can't be allowed in. You on the other hand, you're different."
Different. If I am one of the few allowed in then why me? I thought. I snapped out of my train of thoughts when we entered a huge cavern filled with glowing green stones. There was a small pool of water off to my right with a few glowing green stones in the center of it.
Juan and his Kingdra walked to the other side of the cavern and then held up a Poke Ball.
"Now Sapphire, I am a Gym Leader and I am aware that you only need one more Gym Badge in order to compete in the Pokemon League."
"So you're saying that we should have a battle right here and now?"
"Correct. After all, battling is the fastest way to train Pokemon and Steven told me that he wanted you to be ready within a day."
"A day?! Is he crazy or what?!" Sparkzette exclaimed.
She was right. A day was so little time but it didn't seem like we had another choice.
