Muichiro's POV
I caught a guy staring at me while I was just trying to read my book.
"What are you looking at?" I asked coldly.
"Oh, I'm sorry for staring. You're just very beautiful" he chuckled with a slight blush on his cheeks.
I sighed, "Thank you"
"I'm Tanjirou, it's nice to meet you," he said with an extended hand.
"Muichiro" I said blandly, not taking his hand. It's not that I disliked him, I had nothing against him, yet. This is just how it always goes, men mistake me for the most beautiful woman they've ever seen and then call me a trap when they figure out that I'm actually a man. I honestly couldn't care less what others think about me based on my looks, but it's just getting old.
I tuned out what he was saying and just kept reading my book. But after a while his droning on got annoying and I couldn't tune it out anymore. I lost my mood for reading and just got up abruptly, took my luggage and walked away without saying anything. I had to go unpack anyway.
I left him stunned but he didn't bother chasing after me. Which was nice, looks like he got the hint. I wandered around for a few minutes before remembering where the room I was assigned to be in was.
I entered the room and saw that there was only one bottom bunk left in the room. There was a guy laying in his bed with a cap over his face since it was still light out and the window in the room didn't have curtains. He was snoring slightly, I groaned internally. I personally don't snore, but I have trouble sleeping around people who do. Maybe the sound of the ocean waves will cover it.
I unpacked my stuff into my plastic bin and then left my backpack under the bed instead of on top of it. It could fall off and something inside might break.
After that I decided I wanted to go up to the deck, I watched as the ship's crew bustled around with ropes and other apparatuses. I Saw that they were getting to leave the dock, I watched as they finally finished the last knot and started sailing away from the dock. Some other people had also come to watch, I saw forehead, I forgot his name but I noticed he had a large forehead, he was with another girl and was pointing to the dock and tending to her caringly. I sighed again, 'What a player' I thought.
I turned back to look at the departing dock, it shrank the farther we got. Even though the others had gone back down to the ship, I stayed on the dock and stared at the horizon for what felt like several hours. It probably was several hours in fact, but I was so captivated by the ocean and everything else around me. I had always wanted to go on an ocean trip like this, but I never had anyone to go with, so I thought I would get lonely at sea. But when my supervisor at the Conservatory for Marine Wildlife offered me this opportunity I immediately agreed, he said that there was a private company conducting an experiment on how different people in different careers would adjust to two months at sea. He said very specifically not to embarrass the conservatory since I'll be representing it or something.
I just wanted to have a nice time. The sun was starting to set by the time I finally went inside. I saw that people were preparing for dinner, I was fine with the two meals a day thing, I rarely found the time for two meals a day anyway. We'd have an early breakfast, and then an early dinner, and then an early curfew.
It felt like I was in a school cafeteria again, we had to line up to have our food served on plastic trays. I was just waiting for some random jerk to sneak up behind me and pull my hair.
The meal was freshly made tomato soup, with some bread, some fruit salad, and a chocolate chip cookie along with a cup of water. I was happy with the meal, it wasn't bad.
