Chapter 10 - Torn Stitches

Muichiro's POV

I stayed as still as I could, one of my eyes was just hardly open under the straggling strands of hair.

I watched as Shinobu unlocked the cupboard and pulled a bulky case out of it. She took it to her desk and just to the side of her I could see her press her finger to some sort of pad and then the case clicked open after a few seconds.

'Why in hell would she need something like that?' I thought to myself.

When she opened the case there was a computer built into the case, it looked quite high tech. I saw her fiddling with a small plastic container, something clinked inside but I couldn't make out what it was exactly.

She typed on the computer before it moved onto a different screen, she started typing while mumbling some words. I could hardly make out what she was saying let alone what was on the computer. I could see there was a title on the document she was writing on, it looked like it said 'Animal Mutations'.

She was mumbling on about mice and mutations the entire time, something about a messed up timeline. I felt my body start getting hot, my head started to ache and my hardly open eye became even droopier.

The last thing I heard her say before I passed out was, "This poor mouse, never did anything wrong and now it's ended up some slimy creature of the sea"

I woke up again, I don't know what time it was. But I was still in the infirmary and I felt a hand in mine and a cold towel on my forehead. I glanced down to my side and saw Tanjirou sitting on a stool and leaning over the side of the bed with his hand in mine.

I smiled at the sight of it, he looked cute with his hair flopped over instead of being pushed back like it usually was.

"Tanjirou" I mumbled, "Get up"

He stirred, I poked him gently on the forehead and he groaned before his magenta coloured eyes fluttered open.

"Muichiro, you're awake! How do you feel?" he snapped up when he saw me awake.

"I feel fine, why's there a towel on my head?" I asked in a hoarse voice.

"You had a fever, the cut got infected pretty badly" he explained.

"How long have I been asleep?" I asked quickly.

"Well I came to check on you early this morning, you had a fever and I checked the wound. It was infected so me and Aoi cleaned it out. Shinobu ran some tests and prescribed antibiotics, your fever's gone down since then" he said. I sighed in relief. The last thing I needed was to have been passed out for a week.

"Here, you should drink some water. You're going to need a lot of fluids to recover properly" he said as he grabbed a glass off one of the counters and handed it to me.

"Thank you Tanjirou, I appreciate this," I said as I took a sip of water, but when it touched my tongue I realized how thirsty I actually was and gulped half the cup down.

Tanjirou chuckled, "You should also thank Aoi, she helped me lots. And Shinobu, without the medicine you'd probably still have the fever"

"Right, I'll make sure to do that," I said.

"You should rest and take it easy for a while," he said.

"I'd rather rest in the cabin, this place is kinda giving me the creeps" I said as I threw both legs over the side of the bed. Instantly I felt a sharp sting followed by dull pain under the bandages on my calf. When I tried to step down on the metal it stung before being followed by the same dull pain. It hurt pretty bad, and I'm pretty sure I could feel where the stitches were keeping my skin together. I almost fell over but Tanjirou offered his arm and I used him for balance.
