Chapter 26 - Ladies First

Tanjirou's POV

I had this horrible anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach and with every second that passed it continued to bubble. I stayed by the railing of the ship with Obanai, the others had gone inside.

"How did that thing between you and Muichiro happen?" Obanai mumbled, "Like, you're you and Muihciro's like THAT"

"I don't know what that means" I said, "How do we seem to you?"

"Well you're just awkward and Muichiro's like an overconfident sassy child" he said plainly.

"Um, that's not really how it is, I just think it's because you don't know us very well" I said with a raised brow, "And actually how about you and Mitsuri, I know you guys have something going on"

"It's nothing, I don't know what you're talking about" he mumbled.

I watched the shore for a while, and then I saw someone walking over to the raft through the telescoape. It was Kanao, she got onto the raft and started back to the ship. Obanai went inside to get Giyuu as Kanao made her way to the ship. Giyuu came out with some ropes to tie the raft to the ship and a rope ladder to help her onto the deck.

"Ok, so there are only women with the exception of one small boy," Kanao explained. She told us about the layout of the town and about the leader, she told us they had like a food gathering system of catching fish and berry picking. They had a whole cooking station and fish catching place.

This sounded quite legitimate.

"Although maybe Shinobu may have lied about how many people there were on the ship" she said, "I don't know why though"

"Probably as a safety precaution, so that the islanders think that you guys would have backup in case they tried anything" Giyuu said, "We shouldn't send everyone though"

"I think Tanjirou, Rengoku, Obanai and Himejima should come to the island first, " Kanao said.

"Oh great another sexist" Inouske sighed.

"Nobody is sexist Inosuke" Giyuu sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance, "But why those people Kanao?"

"Because they're the nicest, I think the guys should make a good impression first before introducing the stronger characters like Inouske" she said.

"Alright, that's a good idea, get ready to leave and make sure to be nice to the locals," Giyuu said sternly.

We got on the raft and started back to the island where there was already a group of women waiting for us on the sand.

"Hello gentlemen, welcome to the Island of Faye" said one of the ladies, "I am Maribelle"

"It's lovely to meet you, I'm Tanjirou, and these are Obanai, Rengoku and Himejima" I said carefully, she seemed hesitant but then smiled and nodded.

She led us to the village that Kanao had described, I saw the others, all except Muichiro though.

Maribelle explained their mission statement, it was definitely culty kinda but they all seemed nice enough. But then as Maribelle was showing us around some girl with red hair and glasses called her over urgently.

"Excuse me for a moment, Kristen will show you around until I get back" Maribelle said as she excused herself to go speak with the other girl.

"Ok well, come take a seat and tell me about yourselves" she said as she sat on one of the logs.

"Well then I'll go first, I specialize in general surgery although I don't know if I could perform a lot of surgeries in an environment like this" I said awkwardly.
