Sabito's POV
I stared out at the open seas from all angles, there was nothing, and according to the coordinates we should be right in front of the Solomon Islands. But there was nothing... we were lost.
I groaned as I stared at the map, I had no idea where we were, where Giyuu was or what I could do to fix this and not get anyone else killed or locked up in the process. And maybe if we're lucky then we won't run into any more monsters. IF we're lucky, very, very lucky that is.
I stared at the maps for what felt like forever, but there was nothing, not even so much as a clue to figure out where we were. I was starting to get freaked out, then Giyuu came into the cockpit with a sigh.
"They're lying, all Shinobu does is dodge my questions and lie. Shinazugawa is curled up in the corner, I think he's asleep. And he refuses to eat any of the food that Mitsuri brings for him" He explained.
"We're lost" I mumbled, "I don't know where we are"
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"I don't know where we are, we should be right at the Solomon islands" I said.
"I'm sure we'll get there soon" Giyuu said, but there was a tone in his voice. Like he was trying to reassure himself more than me.
"Giyuu, the only thing we're getting closer to is our unstoppable and impending doom" I snapped.
"You're not wrong, but please try to calm down. The Solomon Islands can't be that far, even if we are off course" He said as he came over and gently grabbed at my shoulders.
"And even if we were of course by a lot we'd still be able to see them by now. From the back of the ship, from the sides, even if we climbed the masts we wouldn't be able to see anything!" I exclaimed in a frustrated manner.
"Maybe there's nothing out there" Giyuu said suddenly, "Shinazugawa told me something, it was weird and unbelievable but maybe he wasn't lying and telling the truth"
"What'd he say?" I asked him.
"He said that the mainland was gone now, something about humanity's failsafe. He was spewing a bunch of bull" he explained vaguely.
"And what did he say exactly?" I asked him.
"He said that this was just a front for the failsafe, something about a particle accelerator and the understanding of existence. He said that if all else failed we would be what was left, apparently the mainland is gone, the islands are gone and there's nothing else out there. Apparently everything's gone" He explained.
"And you think he wasn't lying?" I asked him, "Have you been taking anything?"
"I'm being serious Sabito, and you know, maybe we are just lost and there's something wrong with the dashboard. But I'm not dismissing what Shinazugawa said, and how he said it, he was so sure and confidant" Giyuu said in a serious voice.
"I don't believe you" I sighed, "And you shouldn't trust what Shinazugawa says, he's a liar and ill tempered. That's just asking for trouble" I walked out of the cockpit, I needed some fresh air. I needed to walk around the deck another time, to see if I could make out any stretches of land in the distance. Even if it wasn't the Solomon Islands. Anything that would prove Giyuu and Shinazugawa wrong about their ridiculous theory.
Tanjirou's POV
I walked through the hull, Mitsuri sent me to go collect the plates from Shinobu and Shinazugawa. I don't know how she could still be nice to them, although she never came down herself, I think she did once. But maybe her kindness was just pity, maybe she didn't want to see them because she didn't want to stop sending them food. I think maybe she hated them because she thought that they were actually killers. But Mitsuri's kind, even if she thought they were killers, the pure kindness in Mitsuri's heart could never stop her from helping. She was keeping her anger at bay by staying away and helping from afar.
