Chapter 13 - Murder Mystery

Tanjirou's POV

I was hanging around in the lounge with Muichiro, we were playing shogi. He must be a shogi pro because he was reading a book while simultaneously beating me every single round we played. We played several.

Until sunset, and we were in the middle of the game when there was a loud buzzing sound when all the lights turned off simultaneously. Muichiro put down his book and looked around the room which was barely illuminated from the dimming light coming in through the windows from the sunset.

Everyone else in the room was looking around, I was waiting for the power to come back on but it never did.

"Alright, everyone stay calm, it's just a power outage. Everything's fine" Sabito came into the lounge after a few minutes, "I want everyone to stay here until we can figure this out" he instructed.

He proceeded to light some candles before leaving the lounge. Muichiro hummed, I looked over to him.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Nothing, I was just thinking about something I saw" he explained, "It was a weird"

"What'd you see?" I asked him. He frowned and seemed hesitant, but then he leaned over the table and motioned for me to do the same. I did and he moved to the side to whisper in my ear.

"I think maybe Shinobu's hiding something, when I was in the infirmary the first night I saw her unlock the cupboard and take a weird metal case out of it. I think it had a fingerprint lock on it. And I saw she was typing about animal mutations or something. I don't know, it was really weird" he explained.

"Was it like a briefcase of sorts?" I asked.

"Yeah kinda" he said.

"Just earlier today I saw Sabito sneaking out of Shinagawa's room with a metal briefcase" I said, "But don't tell anyone, Sabito ordered my silence"

He nodded and we both retreated back into our seats, "Something's going on" he mumbled, I nodded in agreement.

"Ugh, I'm so bored, when's dinner going to be ready?" Uzui groaned.

"Not until the energy turns back on, the stove is electric" Mitsuri said suddenly.

"What, when did you get here?" I asked as I noticed Nezuko and Mitsuri sitting in one of the couches in the corner.

"A few minutes ago, Giyuu came to the kitchen and told us to come to the lounge," Mitsuri explained, "But I have a board game we can all play in the kitchen, it's a murder mystery game. Do you want me to go get it?"

"You know what, yes, I'm dying of boredom," Uzui sighed.

"I'll play," Rengoku said happily. A bunch of other people agreed.

Mitsuri took a candle and went down to the kitchen to get the board game.

When she got back she set down the candle and started opening the box of the game.

"We'll pick cards to pick roles, alibi's and a scenario, if you pick the murderer card then there'll be instructions on it. But there's only one murderer and the rest are innocents. Then we'll start a timer and go around the room talking to each other, and if the murderer winks at you then you wait until the end of the round to die" she explained as she set out the cards, "The group is supposed to figure out who the murderer is, the group will vote out one person per round and if they pick the murderer then the innocents wins but if they pick the wrong person then the game continues. The murderer wins as soon as there's only one more innocent left. I know it sounds a bit confusing but it'll make more sense when we start playing"
