Giyuu's POV

"Something isn't right" I mumbled to myself as I looked at the maps sprawled out in front of me.

"What?" Asked Sabito as he looked out the large windows at the sea.

"These maps... it doesn't make sense why we would go in these directions, we've been heading away from mainland all night, now we're just in the middle of the ocean, usually we'd try to stay on the currents but it's almost like we're heading for the middle of the ocean and then circling it for two months before getting back on track to the mainland. Why would anyone want to take these directions?" I questioned.

"It's part of the experiment, and it's also part of our paycheck. Remember what we agreed on, after this we'll take the money and go sailing all over the world, you know how I've always wanted to go to Brazil, and Italy, and Russia. And we'll be set for a long time" he said as he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist and snuggled his face into the crook of my neck. He put his hand in mine and I smiled, he always knew how to calm my reckless paranoia, even when I didn't.

"But don't you think all the money they're paying us is a bit suspicious, and they're also paying everyone else on board for an experiment that they're conducting, they're being fed and taught and they'll have a place to sleep surrounded by a beautiful ocean. This is like their cruise and yet they're being paid to be here" I said accusingly.

He sighed, "Alright, but when we're cruising next to Italy with a cup of fresh gelato in hand, don't say I didn't tell you so" he chuckled.

I smiled, but I couldn't help thinking about why this felt so wrong. The survival instructor, yeah I did not like him. I met the scientist lady, and man, I really didn't like her. She kept patronizing me, but there was something about her too. There were lots of mysterious crates being put on my ship and when I asked her about it she said: "It's on need to know basis, and you don't need to know"

I walked the deck, overlooking everything the crew was doing. Class was in session right now, but I was unnerved. There was no land for a long time, and we kept moving away, going farther and farther. Nobody would find us the way that we were going, there are no major currents or trading routes that deep at sea. And no matter how I looked at it, there was no logical reason for why we'd go so far away. But Sabito was right, it probably was because of the experiment, I mean it was meant to see how people in different careers would adjust to live in a survival situation.

But that's a really specific experiment to be conducting, and for what reason?

I stayed on the bridge for the entire day, Sabito went to go see the classes and then checked in on the engine room. Doing helpful and useful things all while I was busy worrying about a question that already had an answer.

I sighed when night fell and I was still as clueless as I was in the morning. I rubbed at my face with a groan, the bustle from the dining hall made my head hurt.

"Here, don't starve worrying over a problem that doesn't exist" Sabito came up behind me and slid a tray of food in front of me, he planted a kiss on the side of my face lovingly. I smiled at his compassion, he was always worried about me. Tonight we were eating some more fruit salad with a sandwich that had lettuce, a slice of mozzarella and mayo, and last but not least some steamed vegetables.

I picked at the food with my fork while keeping my eyes on the maps and notes I'd taken.

"Oh my god, just eat, or do I have to do it for you?" Sabito joked as he took the sandwich and brought it up to my mouth. I took a bite of the sandwich in his hands all without taking my eyes off of the maps. "You can't be serious," he laughed.
