Shinobu's POV

I counted the pills in the bottle of cephalexin, there were about 11 pills missing. Each pill was 500mg, which meant every 12 hours there'd be a dose taken. Which was about six days of medication, but if Muichiro didn't get better by then, then more pills would be stolen.

I had a pretty good idea of who'd taken the pills, but I would pretend not to notice and let him have this. I didn't want Muichiro to die, but I had to follow orders, if I didn't then Kanae would suffer. And if it was between Muichiro and Kanae, I would always pick Kanae.

But I could and would turn a blind eye on this, it's not like I keep track of how many pills are in every single bottle. I knew he would take the pills, so I left the bottle front and center in one of the cabinets Instead of in the back where it was supposed to be.

I tucked the bottle back to its original place and went to my work,

I was still examining the tooth that had been pulled out of Muichiro's leg, it was laced with venom spitting pores. Muichiro didn't have an infection, his body was fighting off poison. The cephalexin would treat him while keeping everyone in the dark about the actual condition.

And the reason I denied Muichiro more medication was because I had direct orders from the company to step back and merely observe what the poison did to him. It was horrible but they wanted to gather more information on any other possible side effects so they could be prepared to fight off any other mutants that may appear.

And since Muichiro wasn't entirely essential they didn't have a problem letting him die. However if it had been someone like Tanjirou who had been bitten he would have been treated immediately. Being a medical professional at a time like this was a ticket to the VIP section.

Although it was hard to keep an eye on Muichiro when Tanjirou was always taking care of him. Tanjirou was already on edge around Shinazugawa after the stunt he'd pulled and he didn't like me because I had to give the impression that I was willing to let Muichiro die.

It was also quite obvious that Tanjirou cares about Muichiro a lot, he wouldn't have stolen the meds otherwise.

I continued to dissect and study the tooth, it was really something else.

And I'd already had a stern word with Shinazugawa. We needed Tanjirou and the other essential personnel to trust us when things inevitably went south. But thankfully that wouldn't be for a while, as long as everything went to plan.

Muichiro's POV

I hardly remember the night before, I do remember falling in the shower and Tanjirou carrying me down to the infirmary again. I vaguely remember watching him look through the cabinets, but Shinobu wasn't there. He pocketed some pills and then I don't really know what happened after that.

I woke up in my bed and glanced at the window in between Rui and Genya's bunks. The sun was still rising, then I saw Tanjirou at the foot of my bed, he was sitting on the floor and leaning over the side of the bed. Like he was when I woke up in the infirmary. My bandaged leg was propped up on a pillow.

I sat up, my stomach growled loudly. I hadn't eaten in a while so my stomach felt empty. But my head didn't hurt so much as I remember it hurting.

I decided to stay quiet and in my bed, Tanjirou needed the sleep more than anything. For about half an hour I stared at Tanjirou's sleeping face silently.

I defined all his facial features in my head, running my eyes over every curve and line on his face. The way his hair flopped over his forehead and his soft looking cheeks. He looked so calm, so at peace.
