chapter 6

“Joey! I’m gonna go to the store. You want something?” Chicky asked Joey.

“Nope. Samahan na kita.” He offered her a ride.

“Huh? Wag na! Kaya ko na mag-isa noh.” She said refusing him.

“Pero.. sige na nga. Pero dapat andito ka na before 6pm ha?” he said.

“Yes Sir! Bye na!” she said. “Ok bye!” then he kissed Chicky’s cheek.

She went out and walked to the store. It took her about 25 minutes to arrive there. Medyo mainit pa naman nung hapong yun. Weird nga ng panahon eh, makulimlim pero mainit, [siguro uulan..] she thought. She went inside and looked for the necessary products she’ll take.

Meanwhile, “Sana sinamahan ko na lang. Haay. She’s so kind to others. She doesn’t want others to feel uneasy so she takes up all the responsibility. Pero sometimes lang yun. Hahaha. Imagine, she’s my best friend and my girlfriend. What more could I ask for?” he said.

Chicky was reading something nang may biglang tumawag sa kanya. And it’s a familiar voice.

“Chicky?!” someone said.

“Christian!”  Gulat na sabi ni Chicky

“Oh bakit parang gulat ka?” then he hugged her. “Miss you! Tagal na nating hindi nag-usap?!”

“Ah..” tapos nabitawan nya yung hawak niya at tinulak si Christian. “Oo matagal nga..” she said as she broke free from his hug and got what she’s holding.

“Oh eh bakit parang di ka natutuwa na makita ako?” he said.

“Pano ako matutuwa..sige nga? Ilang months din tayong di nag-usap noh?!” she walked down the aisle. Christian following behind said, “..And you missed me?”

“Hell no!” she said, words filled with venom.

“Ouch! Ang sakit nun ah?!” he said.

“Aba! Marunong ka pala masaktan!” she stops and gets another product and looked at the nutrition facts, then she continued, “nung naging kayo ni Agatha, did it even occur to you that I AM your girlfriend? Or was I just blind that I didn’t notice that you were just playing me. You didn’t even consider my feelings!”

That caught Christian off guard. Suddenly it rained. [shoot! Sabi ko na nga ba eh! Kaya pala masyadong mainit kanina! Argh! Wala akong payong!!!!! Tsaka diba summer pa? Ayy nga pala mag JuJune na.] she thought.

“Please let me explain? Please?” Christian pleaded.

“Okay I will. Just make sure na hindi masasayang oras ko!” she threatened.

“I’m sorry this happened. Totoo Agatha is my girlfriend. And its also true na…na.. I played you. It was all a game.” He confessed..

“Ok! Stop it na! I get it! Don’t continue anymore.” She went to the counter furiously but when she saw the cashier smiling, gumaan yung pakiramdam niya. The cashier gets the products and puts them in the plastic bag. Chicky gave the cashier her money and said, “Thanks!”

She picked up the plastic bag and faced Christian saying, “Christian! It was so nice running into you here! But I’m afraid I have to go na. Bye!” she said sarcastically, “and oh.. Break na tayo!” then she smiled and hurried outside.

[oh shoot I completely forgot that its raining! I’m so wet!] she thought.

“Wait!” he called out to her.

“Nakakainis naman 'to! Basang basa na talaga ako!” naglakad siya ng mabilis para makaiwas na rin kay Christian.

“Wait! I have a car! Hatid na kita. At least I can make up for it.” he insisted.

“Hindi! Okay lang!”  And continued walking.

“Chicky wait!

“Just leave me alone! Please!” she said. Even though she has Joey now, she still can’t forget that awful feeling of being played. Everything should be okay right now ‘cause he confirmed it na and they now officially broke up with each other.

[That’s the one good thing rain does. No one can see my tears.]

Meanwhile,

“Nasan na ba yun?! 6:30pm na ah?! Umuulan pa! Dapat kasi sinamahan ko na lang eh.” He said as he walked out the door and got in his car. He started to look for her.

“Medyo malayo pala yung nilakad niya, akala ko malapit lang. Tanga ko naman hindi ko alam san yung convenience store.” he said.

“Ahchoo!! Ahchoo!! Grabe ang lamig! Wala pa namang masisilungan. Joey! Sorry ah di ako nakinig..” she said. She saw a waiting shed and rushed in there. One final blow at ayun nag collapse na.

“Damn! Mahina pa naman katawan nun! Sana may masilungan—“ he saw her. “Shit!” He stopped the car and rushed into the waiting shed. “Chicky! Wake up!” at hindi pa rin siya magising. He carried her to his car and drove home. While driving he looked at her and noticed that her eyes were puffy.

He reached for her forehead.. “Ang init niya! Ano ba yan!” they arrived home and he carried her to her room. He laid her down gently not to wake her up. He touched her forehead hoping that the fever went down. Unfortunately, hindi pa rin. He went to get a basin of water and face towel. Pinunasan niya yung mukha ni Chicky, her arms and her legs. [next time nga sasamahan na kita.kahit san ka pumunta, kahit ayaw mo wala kang magagawa.] he thought.

Chicky shifted her body in such a way she’s comfortable.

“Please leave me alone, Christian.” She said quietly. “ I don’t want to listen to you..”

“Christian?! Chicky just rest.” He said as he got the face towel, folded it and placed on top of her forehead. He sat down on the couch and thought about what she said. “Christian.. what have you done? ‘Di naman niya maiisip sumugod sa ulan kung wala siyang iniiwasang tao eh..” He just got a magazine and leafed through it. “Aish! For girls!” he exclaimed pero tinakpan kagad yung bibig kasi baka magising si Chicky. 

Chicky shifted her position again and he placed blanket over her body. He put his hand over her forehead and was surprised that she no longer has fever.

“Good thing bumaba na lagnat niya.” He said as he looked at his watch. “Hala! Past 2 am na..hmm.. since okay na siya matutulog na ko..” then he slept in the couch.
