chapter 9

“HOY! Kayong dalawa! When are you planning to tell us?” sigaw ni Bubbles.

Ang dalawa ay may mga mukhang o_o. Oops. Buking na.

“Huh? What are you saying?” Chicky said, half smiling.

“Well, actually kanina pa namin kayo napapansin na masyado na kayong nagiging close. Isn’t it too much for a best friend relationship?” she accused.

“Ha?” then the two blushed. She looked at Joey and he looked back at her. Then she gave a signal. At habang nangyayari ang mga ito ang lahat ay nakatitig sa kanila.

“Oo..kami na..” Joey blurted out, smiling.

“WHAAAADDDTT?” kahit na ineexpect na ng kada ito dahil sa nakita ng mga fellow members ang scene kanina sa kitchen eh hindi nila inakalang totoo hinala nila.

“Kelan pa?” tanong ni Vicky.

“Pano?” tanong ni Apple.

“Teka, best friends kayo diba? Ganon na kalalim connection niyo??” sabi ni Bubbles.

“Teka isa isa lang. One week at 1-day na rin kami. Pano? Hmm.. long story. And yup! Best friends kami at ganon na kalalim connection namin with each other.” Sagot ni Chicky. Joey was there to nod to everything she says.

Everyone was speechless. At halos lahat biglang naisip ang kani-kanilang mga mahal.

“Anyone water? Hehe.” Vicky offered.”Yes please!” halos lahat sila namutla. She stood up and went straight to the kitchen.

[Hindi ko talaga ineexpect. I mean, ewan. I’m so happy for her though. Kakainggit naman. Kelan kaya ako magkakabf. Aish. Lalaki na naman. Mga walang kwentang tao.] she thought. Bigla niyang napansin na si Max eh sumunod pala sa kanya.

She began to feel clammy on the insides. I think it’s because of his mere presence. As she was getting the glasses and the tray, he opened the fridge and got the water. Tahimik pa rin silang dalawa. Nagpapakiramdaman pa ata. Then Max was the first one to break the silence.

“Hi!” he said as he poured the water into the first glass. There was something in his voice. Was it nervousness?

“..Hi.” she said meekly.

“How was your summer? Tagal nating hindi nagkita ah? Pansin ko tumaba ka, vicks vapor rub.” he said trying to break the tension between the two. Luckily nagawa niya.

“Kapal nito! Kala mo naman hindi siya tumaba. Mas mataba ka nga sakin ngayon eh. Mas mataba ka pa nga kesa kay bola eh. Hmpf. Anyway, ayon, work, work and more work. Eh ikaw?” she said as confidence slowly worked its way to her.

“I went to guitar camp. Masaya nga eh. Haha. Sana sumama ka. Para may naasar ako!” he said.

“Ang kapal talaga nito!” sabay hampas sa balikat ni Max. “Hindi pwede noh. You know I’m saving up for a car. I have to work my ass off to buy that freakin’ car.”  Okay. That was a lame attempt to joke.

But it worked. He was laughing. Really hard.

Na-confuse si Vicky. Was there something on her face that made him laugh that hard? Aish whatever.

[Get those silly glasses of water here Vicky! We’re already dying of dehydration!!] Apple thought. [aish! Ngayon ba naman pinili yung oras para makapag usap sila?!]

“I’ll get this.” He said as he got the tray and went to the others. They got the glasses at bago pa makaupo sila Max at Vicky eh ubos na mga tubig nila.

“Whoa! Ganyan ba talaga kayo ka – o.a. magreact?!” Vicky said.

At tumawa na naman si Max. Everyone stared at him.

“Dude! Okay ka lang?” Prince spoke.

“Ha?!” he said and continued laughing like a maniac.

“Max. Tama na. O.A. na.” Vicky seriously said. That worked. Tumahimik si Max. Pero he bowed down his head at eventually nagstart mag shake shoulders niya.

“Max. O.A. na talaga..” Bubbles said.

“Oo nga dude. Ano ba yang pinagtatawanan mo?” tanong ni Mark.

“Wala..hehe.. di na ko tatawa okay.” Sabi ni Max as he looked at Vicky. Namumula na si Max sa kakapigil ng tawa.

“EH kasi tignan niyo si Vicky. Ang cute niya kapag nagagalit siya. Hahaha!! Tapos kapag sinasabi niya yung word na O.A. parang gusto kong hawakan yung cheeks niya. Ang sarap kasi kurutin! Thinking about it makes me want to laugh!! Hahahaha!!” he said as he was still laughing hard.

Tahimik pa rin sila at si Vicky hindi makapaniwala sa sinabi niya. She can feel the heat rising to her cheeks. Max eventually stopped laughing and realized na that was the wrong thing to say.

And so everyone including Max, was silent. [Uh-oh! I better be careful with my words] Max thought.

“Okay! Why don’t we all go to the movies right now?” Bubbles immediately asked. She felt that Vicky doesn’t want to be humiliated so she made a quick decision. “I mean, hello? We never get to spend the summer season together, right?” And she eyed Vicky who mouthed her ‘thank you’ which she just smiled as her reply.

“OK! OK! I like that! I like that!!” Chicky squealed.

“Ok let’s go!” Bubbles added. Obviously, Bubbles was the most hyper in the group.

They started for the door, got in and drove to the Mall.
