{ Payton }

My mom, brothers, and Ashton all stepped off the plane and into the Maui airport. My other friends were supposed to come but some things came up and only Ashton could come.

It was finally spring break and we were all super excited about coming down here. I was also excited because my birthday was this week too. I was also glad because I'm no longer in the sling so I can actually have some fun while we're here.

We walked through the airport and out to the pick-up area after getting our luggage. We quickly saw my grandparents SUV,

"Grandma! Grandpa!" my brothers yelled and ran to my grandparents who were now standing on the sidewalk,

"I'm nervous" Ashton chuckled, wiping his sweaty hands on his shorts,

"Why?" I laughed, "You met them at my dad's funeral and when they flew in for Christmas"

"Yeah, but that was a funeral and I didn't say much at Christmas. This is more than that. I'll be here all week" he told me,

"It's going to be fine. I promise" I assured him then pecked his lips.

We walked over and my grandparents hugged me immediately,

"Are you okay?" my grandma asked, "You got really hurt in that wreck"

"I'm okay" I promised, "A little sore still but I'm okay"

They nodded then smiled at Ashton,

"It's good to see you again sweetheart" my grandma hugged him and my grandpa shook his hand,

"You two as well" Ashton smiled.

Ashton helped my grandpa put our bags in the back then we all climbed in to head to their house. Originally we were staying at our old house but a new family moved into it already,

"Are you excited to be back here?" my mom asked my brothers and I. My little brothers nodded but I sighed a little,

"I'm happy, but it's weird. I just remember all we did with Dad"

My mom softly smiled and Ashton grabbed my hand,

"It'll be okay"

We got to the house and I took Ashton up to the room we were sleeping in. As we put our bags down, my mom walked in,

"You know I don't care about you guys sleeping in the same bed at home and the door being closed, but it's gonna matter here. They don't care if you share a bed, but the door does need to stay open, at least partially" my mom told us,

"Got it" I nodded and looked at Ashton who nodded,

"Alright, get changed. We're going to hang out on the beach"

Ashton and I nodded and my mom left the room. I grabbed my bathing suit and changed in the bathroom while Ashton changed into the room. After I changed, I walked back into the room and Ashton smirked,

"Keep it in your pants. My family is right downstairs" I laughed,

"I'll try" he huffed playfully before following me downstairs and out to the beach in the backyard.

We hung out on the beach for a while and built little sandcastles with my brothers.  Then my grandpa brought the surfboards out,

"I'm sure you're a pretty good surfer Ashton" he laughed,

"You may think that, but I've surfed once and never stood up" Ashton laughed,

"Aww man" my grandpa laughed, "Go kick his butt out there Pay"

I laughed and grabbed the boards and gave one to Ashton. We headed out into the water and paddled out a decent way. When I saw a good wave coming, I started paddling and went to hop up, but my shoulder was so sore and I couldn't push myself up then it buckled and fell off,

"Payton!" I heard Ashton gasp as my head popped up. I looked and found him paddling to me. I quickly grabbed onto my board and held on to keep myself afloat,

"Are you okay? Your shoulder did some janky shit" he asked, helping me get up on my board,

"Yeah. It's just sore and it buckled or something. Maybe no surfing" I sighed. Ashton nodded and we paddled in.  When we got to the beach, Ashton carried both our boards up,

"Are you okay?" my grandma questioned,

"Yeah. I'm just a little sore still" I shrugged,

"I'm sorry sweetheart" she sighed and hugged me,

"It's okay. I just need to keep up with physical therapy and keep moving it to loosen it up"

While Ashton was in the shower and my mom was getting my brothers to bed, I sat on the back porch with my grandparents just talking with them. I haven't seen them for a while so it was nice to just sit and talk,

"Ashton's a good guy" my grandpa smiled, "And I can tell he really loves you"

"I love him too. I've never been happier" I smiled,

"I heard you two were getting an apartment. Are you excited?" my grandma asked,

"Yeah" I grinned, "We really need to start looking for options that way we can move in during the summer"

"You've got it planned out" Grandpa commented,

"We've been talking about it for a while so we've been planning for a while"

"I'm glad you're happy with him. We really like Ashton and we hope you and him are together for a long time"
